    Hey Motor Heads!

So I'm moving to London and have to sell my 2004 Opel Astra. I put it on Carzone last week for €4,200 and really thought I'd have quite a few calls by now (had 1 voicemail that never came to anything). The car is in great nick, only has 55,000 miles on it and compared to other 2004 Astra's it has the best price on there given the milage - even cheaper than some that have 80k+ miles on it!!

A few questions for anyone who may have recently sold a car - how long can you expect to wait before finding a buyer? I'm willing to take 4k cash for it so some room for bargaining once someone actually calls! I just need to find those callers!

Secondly, I was driving out the Rock Road today (Dublin) and saw a sign saying 'We buy cars for cash' and then a mobile number. Anyone who what the deal is with this sort of set up. Are these places legit or are the likely to offer me e1,000 or something ridiculous for an otherwise great car?

    Any advice appreciated!

Jesus, maybe it's me, but I'd think that car is waaaaay overpriced.

Can't check now, but I'd reckon you'd be looking closer to 3k to get that moved.

Put it on donedeal.ie. Give it a good clean inside and out and take good photos. Describe it well (exact spec, service history etc). Price it well and it will be sold in a matter of hours. Carzone is for more expensive dealer stuff.

From a quick check of donedeal maybe €3750 would be a better asking price. Sell for €3-€3.5K

Maybe yours is one of the cheapest for year and mileage on carzone, but there is tens if not hundreds astras much cheaper on donedeal.

Beside - what engine is it?

Thanks guys, to be honest my pricing method was going off Carzone, and then trying to undercut the Astra's on there (I have no outstanding finance on this so anything I get comes to me, so was willing based on Carzone to let it go for 4k - looks like I was overshooting the mark a bit).

It's true - having looked at Done Deal it seems that they are all priced between 3.5k - 4k, but again some of them have 80k + miles whereas mine only has 55k. Hopefully that'll get me a couple of hundred more.

I'm going to repost on Done Deal tonight for 3,775! We agree that's better? Thanks for all the advice! :)

I've had a quick search on done deal, is it the new or old shape Astra (both were available in 04), old shape ones being offered from €1500, there's a lot of new shape ones available for around €3,000. I'd imagine the prices you've seen are dealer prices.

Obviously I wish you luck, but I was in similar situation as you few days ago.
I have 2004 Mazda 6 2.0 petrol for sale, and I was initially thinking of getting something like 3500 for it.
I asked a question here on boards, and most posters said that 2500 is more realistic price.
I advertised it for 3450 few days ago, and I didn't get a single phonecall or email.
So in your place I would rather start thinking about even lower price, as there are even 04 astras below 2000euro on donedeal

    PS.
Ireland must be one of very few places on earth where Mazda 6 which is way bigger, more comfortable, faster, and generally better car than Astra at the age o 9 years is worth less than astra.
All probably because of stupid taxation and insurance industry.

OP, if that is your car in the link above then you need to take photos other than in a dark underground carpark. They would put me off straight away as it gives me the impression that you have little interest in presenting the car at it's best. Find a location with a nice background on a bright day.

Also carzone is mostly used by dealers who offer warranty in their asking prices and what they ask for them and what they actually sell them for can be alot different so prices there are distorted especially if selling privately.

Hi OP looks like a decent car but honestly as other's have said take photos outside in good light then add 10 photos 6-7 outside pics and 3-4 of the inside of the car.

List the spec the car has eg. Service history, Owners, NCT and the rest you have done.

Take out the bit about parking and also leaving the country that will put off sellers.

Put down your €3700 price and nearest offer and see what happens.

Oh OP don't waste your time with those signs you see hanging on traffic lights & poles there are so dodgy.

In general car ad services in Ireland seem to not support good quality pictures.
I've put nice really good quality photo, but donedeal resized them to funny 400X300pix resolution (or sth like that) and lowered jpeg quality to very low, so actually nothing can be seen on the pictures.
The same with any other services.
I wonder why don't they accept proper pictures?

f.e. take a look here - click on the picture - pictures are of way better quality than donedeal or the likes.

4k sounds like a lot for a 04 Astra. We sold a 06 one with 60k miles for way less than that to the trade a month ago ... it was sold by the other dealer for between 3500-4000 to the final owner. Similar miles to yours but 2 years newer than yours. Also a life model, silver and 5dr, but ours didn't have alloys.
