    Hey

So I was up in Leopardstown driving range yesterday working on some drills and well as luck would have it the head of my 8iron flew out into the range and they would not let me get it even though I could see it teasing me.

So they said they would get it today but haven't been able to find it so I am pissed off as A) the clubs are old and I am not sure how I will get a replacement B) I showed them the club and even though the few people around me said they would stop they wouldn't let me get the club (30 yds into the range beside the middle basket

So has anyone had anything similar happen and also does anyone think it would be possible to get a Titleist 690CB 8iron? I am looking on the web and it seems impossible (bar 1 in the US which costs the same as much as a set of clubs)

Haha that brings back memories, the head of my Taylormade bubble burner 3-wood departed the shaft in the same range about 10 years ago. It was at night, floodlit, I remember thinking 'that was a sweet shot', it felt as if I'd hit the ball perfectly, it took a couple of seconds before I realised the club head was gone! I didn't see it land, told the guy on duty, never saw it again.

Total pain in the hole.. I love the irons so pretty annoyed not having it in the bag. (Hoping they will find it as buying a house at the moment so getting new irons will probably end up with the 9 iron wrapped around my neck from my partner)

No idea how many bays in this range, how difficult to orchestrate there, if there is obstacles etc but why wouldn't ya just run out and get it if people were willing to stop hitting for the whole 10 seconds it would take?

Agreed, I wouldn't even asked permission, just shout to people to stop for 2 seconds, run and get it. If I was hitting balls I wouldn't mind having to stop for a minute to help someone out.

edit, just thinking, is it a raised driving bay and you'd either have to jump down a good distance or go via a staff door?

You're gonna run 30 yards onto a driving range relying on the range machine gunners to hear your shout and stop! Maybe you should consider wearing a helmet whenever you leave the house.

I'm dam sure if I was in their situation I wouldn't leave it up to the staff to get it for me, as that didn't work in both their cases, bit of coordinated help from a few fellow golfers is all that's needed. Not sure why you felt the need to insult me with the "helmet" remark, but whatever makes you feel good.

Apologies if you felt insulted not my intention, just couldn't believe anyone would be that reckless (or encourage others to be)

It is a big range and also a guys walking in the bays picking up baskets etc who told me they can't have anyone for insurance reasons running out so I pointed it out to him and he said he would pick it up. Now of course they can't find the thing.

I would normally run out but it was very busy and looked quite soft so I didn't want to get a smack of a ball or piss to many people off.

These two are about €35 if you can get them to ship to Ireland for a decent price.

Do they have the machine on fron of the little tractor to collect balls if so a)they've drove over it and pushed into dirt b) stuck in-between the blades of the ball collector.........I use to work in a driving range and if that happened to a customer I'd just drive out in my little tractor and get the club head as i could get some business for the in house pros too,

If it's busy enough, there's a good chance someone will curve the ball and hit you by accident; you goto the range to practice after all.

Heck, there's people who see anything moving on the driving range green as a target!

Also, would you be covered under your golf insurance for the replacement cost?

The last balls get given out there at 9.30, so head down there for about 9.20 and then ask if you can take a run out to check once the last golfer is finished, but before the lights get switched off.

I still aim for the poor rabbits at the end of the Ward driving range though they never seem too bothered..

They rang me there and it got stuck in the tracktor so have it back so only a re-shaft needed..

Great to get it back but will it be damaged?

Would have thought that some adhesive and a loft/lie check and you are done?

Apparently its not damaged but I will get it all checked (loft/lie) before putting it back in the bag.
