    Hi All,

The honeymoon thread proved such a success I thought I chance my arm looking for some more information / advice.

We are getting married in Tipperary in May 2014. We are having a civil ceremony and neither of us particularly like the idea of a "wedding singer". I'm just wondering of ideas / recommendations etc that people may have. At present we dont have this included in the budget but just want to get an idea of whats available etc.

Personally I love the idea of a sole cellist, however I dont know of many around.

What does this kind of service normally cost?

    Thanks in advance.

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

You definitely don't have to go with a singer if it's not what you're in to, it's just one of many many options! A solo cello for the whole thing mightn't be the most varied though, you could try a duo or trio, or maybe a harp or guitar player who can provide music by themselves.

For church ceremonies the going rate is about 150-250 per musician, but since the civil ceremony is a bit shorter you should be able to find something for less than that. There's about 6 or 7 places maximum you can have music in your civil ceremony, but the musicians do still have to book out the day and travel etc.

I'm sure the other posters will have lots of lovely suggestions, PM me if you'd like info on some musicians in your area. You could have a look at the musicians on churchmusic.ie also, to see who can provide music in the region. :)

    Hi Toomelady,

We went with a String Quartet from Tipperary Town. Michael John is very nice guy to meet and seems highly regarded.

Due to there being 4 musicians it will likely be more expensive then you would like. Didnt come across many individual musicians, but there are a few sites that facilitate such searching. Hope this is of some use, and congrats.
