My friend repairing Opel Zafira , 02, 1.6 petrol, Z16XEP engine code, smokey while idling, or revving , but while driving (not accelerating) , there is no smoke at all, compression in all cylinders very good, and even, we think, it is most likely oil rings gone, ... could be also stem seals.
Anyone know, where is possible get in Dublin or nearby mentioned engine piston rings and possible stem seals?

looked in ebay, rings would cost up to 100 quid delivered, think, maybe would get in similar price here.

    Thanks.

    Did you try ebay.co.uk?

These work out at €70 delivered.

Just use Parcel Motel. They'll provide you with a UK address, and deliver it to your nearest motel in Dublin. Amazing service!

If it's a 2002 it is a Z16XE engine, XEP is the later engine so make sure you are buying the correct parts. If in doubt pm me.

It's the greatest service ever. I use it all the time.

Got a OEM thermostat delivered last week for a fraction of the cost you'd get it here. Was also pricing wheel hub/bearings and I could get a FAG (OEM) delivered here for less than €100. The local factors wanted nearly €200.

So frustrating when they'll deliver to UK only (usually free) and couldn't give a sheet about us paddies. Enter Parcel Motel. You'll get the first two deliveries fee. Only €3.50 after that, and they're fast.

There are different part numbers listed for each engine.

Pistons look great apart from the sludge but the oil rings look unbelievably stuck in their lands. Do you know if the correct spec oil been used at recommended service intervals?

unknown history. typical people attitude to the cars.

Yeah. the owner-devised extended service internals are not great. I'm currently rebuilding a SAAB 9-5 engine and it is not a pretty sight internally.

well, actually only oil rings are bad, all the rest is fine, even cylinder pressure was perfect.

car has over 250 k miles on clock , no any hedge on cylinder block on very top. .... look like new, maybe engine been changed at some point.

get some pictures on saab rebuil process, if i am not mistaken, they are using Opel engines also.

I rebuilt a Z14XEP where the pistons looked exactly the same as that. That condition is caused by excess heat build up, normally due to the engine being allowed to run low on oil.

I'd be carefully checking and measuring the cylinder bores with the rings in that condition. I would also be changing the likes of valve stem seals in that engine too as these will have been worn by low oil conditions too.

I guarantee that all the rings are worn. Did you do a leak down test or just a compression test? If ring wear was bad enough to show on a compression gauge then the engine would have starting/running problems.

even before we split engine, it started without any problems, no any running problems, no revs fluctuating , i was driving it to garage, it felt a bit sluggish, but i never drove before zafira , and i dont know how to perform that engine. there was no smoke at all while driving , just while parked, was well smokey , when revving up.

did compression test ... 16 each cylinder ... i think that was in atmospheres .

Nobody sell oil rings separately, so full set will go on all pistons.

thats not my car, and i am not fixing it, my friend own it and doing that job, i am more moral support and have a chat, and maybe some part supply assistance, as friend is working every day, i am more off work .

This is a B205E which is a saab engine. I have loads of pictures, will probably do a writeup from it once finished. The root cause of high oil consumpion on both of our engines look to be stuck oil control rings. As with yours there was no noticeable wear on any of the components including the cylinder walls which still clearly show the original honing marks.
