Average mileage per year in Dublin

    I've read before that the average national mileage per year is around 10k - 12k miles/14k - 17k pertrol v diesel: http://nmr.ie/2012/02/average-mileage-in-ireland-2012/

Assuming that's the national average mileage does anyone have any indication what the average mileage is in Dublin? If you take 14,000km which is the lower end of the average, that works out at about 1,100km per month/270k per week/40 per day approx (including weekends). That would be the equivalent of a round trip from Enniskerry to Stephens Green every day. I don't think most people living in Dublin would do that much mileage?

I drive to the northside and back everyday, and a little bit of popping around,so it usually comes to around 30 miles a day which is about 11000 per year. That trip would probably be the furthest of driving you could do WITHIN Dublin day to day, unless you lived in rush and were travelling to greystones or something.

50km a day trip to work and back, North to West dublin. So that's 250km, say 48 weeks a year... 12,000km. And that's not taking into account recreational use after work/weekends...

I drive 95% city driving (Dublin).
I do on a normal day, about 20 miles. That included going to work, coming home and doing the shop run, football run etc etc

    Some days more, some less.
So about 7,500 miles per year.

On weekdays 50% time on normal roads, 50% Dublin city. The exact time I spend to travel 30 miles (or 50km for others) is also spent doing 5 miles/8 km from Blanch to South William St.

    Hmmmmm..... :(

The reason I ask is because i see some cars on cbg.ie or carzone that are Dublin reg and have 100,000 miles in three years and are not taxis. Makes you wonder what they are doing to have that type of mileage?

Still seems like alot of mileage and alot of time spent on the road.

You are assuming a car with a D reg never leaves Dublin.

Both of my parents do between 50 and 60 thousand km a year. That works out at about 100,000 miles over three years so it is very doable. Many people would do more.

There is also a lot of people who keep there family home address as where there car is registered, like me. My official address is Dublin even though I haven't lived there for 8 years. All my tax, bank accounts, voting cards are registered to my parents house.

I've a new car since end of jan with just under 12,000 km on it. When I go to sell it in about 3 years time it could easily have 180,000 km with a Dublin reg but rarely be driven in Dublin (1-2 a month).
