Sean Og OCeallahain of RTE radio has died.

    May he rest in peace.

Nice lad I believe, delivery a bit too high-pitched and reedy for my taste, but by all accounts,a bit of a legend .

Strong Dubs supporter and the Marino accent with the rrrrrrs like a river running over smooth rocks was always a feature I looked out for, very similar to Heffo's accent.

89 years old so had a good innings, amazingly still working up to a short time ago.

His father Sean OCeallachain presented the results before him ,so little changes in the Montrose selection procedures.

That being said, a great broadcaster and will be missed.

    Rip.

    You said it!

Its a well known fact Sean snr. Insisted with the powers that be that his job was to be taken over by his son on his retirement.

Not sure how he played that out, but as you say thats RTE selection process.

    RIP all the same.

Always remember hearing his voice coming from the radio in my parents' room on a Sunday evening when we were heading to bed, preparing for another week of school. My father would have listened to him religiously every week. RIP and condolences to his family.

Many a night I went to bed/sleep listening to his results slot. He is a sound of a generation .

how Sean Og got the gig on radio (Source: Bowman's Sunday - March 2013)

Sean Og had to stand in for his father on a number occasions, due to his father been under weather and not fit to broadcast.

Sean Snr. then developed a cough, which hindered his performances on radio.

Because of this, RTE asked Sean Og to pass on that message that they no longer required his father's services and that he (Sean Og) was replacing him.

Yes indeed. I learned a lot about the geography of Ireland listening to him.

And he never called it Crowe Park or Croker either. 2 of my pet hates in modern day radio and TV.
