I was just wondering about leasing land out with maps when you have SFP entitlements....Could i be in danger off losing my entitlements too a shady farmer ?? How would i go about getting my entitlements back after any lease is finished??

You are not entitled to any sfp if you are renting it under the terms and conditions.

no you lease the entilements with the land and the farmer renting the land will pay you based on their value . i think you can rent part of your farm without the entilements , no one can take away the entilements from you by leasing them out

I think you can lease the entitlements with the land, the farmer draws your entitlements and gives it back to you by way of increased rent.

How far back has this SFP payments scheme been in existence ?.Is there anyway of checking if someone is still claiming against land we rented out years ago as we've never claimed it ourselves as we aren't resident on our small holding but living in England. Is it possible we can claim it or do we need to be resident here or have a herd number etc.property is 8 acres in total. We do drainage and up keep etc improving the land.Am i right in thinking its about 200 euro per Hectacre roughly 4 acres ? thanks for any advice.

I think other posters do not understand what you are asking. What you are asking is can you rent land that there is SFP attached and claim entitlements that you already own with out risk of losing same. The answer is yes but you need to rent land with no SFP attached. There is still some about.

The answer is it dose not matter if farmers build up entitlements on your land pre 2002 they own them. Also you need to have a herd no and be activily farming the land. 8 acres would not be a viable holding it is slightly over 3Ha. 1HA=2.5A.

Are you saying the previous rentee can still claim the entitlements they were claiming pre 2002 on our land even though some one else is now renting the land off us the last few years possibly not claiming it themselves either ? Did hear mention of previous renter and maps going in when we were starting to rent to some one else so suspicion is there i feel.We had a herd number years and years ago, presume its extinct now, have read other posts regarding getting herd numbers versus flock numbers etc.and definition of a farmer being one who looks after the land as we do,we've never availed of any grants either.

No they cannot claim it on your land however they can claim these entitlements on other land that has no entitlements attached to it or they could have rolled these entitlements into there other entitlements.

just reading other forums here regarding disadvantaged area payments, saying just owning the land qualifies for SFPand maintaining it,think our area is in that and also mentions needing to stock it only for 3 months etc to qualify.how does some land have SFP entitlements and some not, does it have to be registered or something ?thanks again for advice.

If claiming DA you have to live in the area at this stage so if not in the area you may not qualify. Rules re DA are changing all the time I think it is 6 months minimum now. Previously it was not a requirement to register land to farm, pre 2002 if you were not claiming premia on cattle or DA some farmers did not bother filling out forms as they may not have claimed same but sold cattle in marts with premia attached.

Sounds a complex old process of paper chasing etc,see neighbours near by stock for a few months to qualify then end up selling the cattle for a worse price than they paid for them, must be some money to be made or they wouldn't do it surely with grants ,claiming for farm machinery and new pens etc, need a Teagasc advisor i'd say.Looks like the day job is a necessity and the old farm is a hobby really, they have 28 acres in Roscommon but live in Dublin for work ,with their mother getting help from a neighbour as needed with the farm back home..
