    From ITV wales
Passengers and crew evacuated from vessel in Holyhead

Stena Line has confirmed there was an incident at Holyhead port in Anglesey at around 6am this morning as the Stena Line charter ship Finnarrow was berthing in Holyhead en route from Dublin Port which involved the ship’s stabilisers.

All 77 passengers and 43 crew onboard the vessel were evacuated and the vessel was safely berthed.

The vessel is currently docked in Holyhead undergoing inspections and will remain out of service for the immediate future.

Stena Line passengers due to travel on Stena Line’s Holyhead-Dublin service will be accommodated on alternative sailings and are currently being contacted by the company to advise them of the situation.

77 passengers? Was that a normal sailing?

Its mainly freight that is on that ferry. The Stena Adventurer is the one the carrys foot passengers

OK, makes sense, ~77 trucks is a decent enough load. If that was car/foot pax it'd be atrocious - although I have been on a late night Irish Ferries Holyhead-Dublin that was about that quiet!

You cant forget that not all truck trailers actually go with a tractor unit and a driver and are sometimes dropped off and picked up at either end of the journey by different tractor units.
So even with a low number of passengers the ferry can still be generating more revenue than is apparant.

    Anyhow,
Finnarrow is now gone for repairs :

    and in its place:
"Stena Line to Reactivate HSS Service Following Ferry Incident"

Still a major blunder to try docking with the 'Fins' deployed.

It only holds 200 passengers compared to the Stena Adventurer that can take 1500 passengers.

Well i was told by someone at Stena each lorry get them 1000 pounds each so if it was 77 lorry drivers then its 77k they would have got from the sailing which isnt bad. Irish Ferries and Stena dont make money of the likes of us its the freight that nets the profit. Plus they load tailers on and leave them without drivers on the ferry so id say it was making a decent profit

The rates for freight haven't been that high (Although close to it during the height of the Celtic Tiger due to lack of capacity).

An average punter walking in off the street with a 15m Artic can get it across for about 600euro or so. Freight companies with large volumes of traffic can negotiate much lower rates. With the passenger ferrys the big money is in cars which is seasonal but the bread and butter is the freight which is steady all year round. Freight rates have come down the past few years because of an excess capacity on the Irish Sea. P&O, Stena and Seatruck have increased their capacity in recent years.

That particular sailing with the Finnarrow would of been running at a loss but the previous crossing ex Holyhead around 20:00hrs would of been fairly busy and their 15:10 ex Dublin would of been relatively full also. The Ulysess and Adventurer most mornings leaving Dublin during the week are practically empty but make their money on the night crossings.

It was covering a 'Nordica' run, an AM nightrider crossing mainly freight crossing with few passengers.

.Its nice to see the HSS back in action. But will cost Stena a fortune to run. We are flying over to Liverpool this week thinking now of coming back on the HSS so we can shop!!

You can add a checked in case for €30 (15KGS), you cant beat a 35min flight.
