Im looking for a car rental company anywhere in Ireland,North or South that doesnt require you to have a licence more than a year.

Im 25 and i will have my full Irish licence 6 months at the time i need to rent the car. Im returning home from Australia for a month and a car would make the trip a lot more enjoyable. However most companies require you to have held the licence more than 2 years.

Does anyone know if there is acompany where I can pay exta to wave this, ect ? Any helpful information at all would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm going to Torremolinos tomorrow and I had planned on renting a car for the week but hotel has a 10 euro a day car parking which is kind of putting it out of a sensible decision.

Has anyone that's been there know if there's in a car rental spot in Torremolinos itself rather than going back to the Airport? I wouldn't mind going to Marbella and just generally touring around for a day or two, but the car parking is going to cost most than the car rental, lol.

    Hi all
We are flying into perpignan at weekend

We have booked a car through rental cars.com
    Thrifty are the supplier.

Can anyone tell me if this supplier is actually at the airport or do we have to walk/ get a shuttle bus somewhere.

Why I ask is last year in malaga the set up was horrendous queues of people queuing for a shuttle bus then the shuttle bus pulls up at the back of the queue breakin people rushing to get on and tryin to mind two young children and 2 impatient grandparents! !

Perpigan Airport is a small airport. Only one baggage conveyor belt. All the car hire is on your left after clearing custom. All within a little walk.

I think it hertz is doing it on behalf of thrifty.

    Hope this help.

As pauraic1990 says it's just to the left out the door from the baggage reclaim and customs check. So close in fact that what I do is leave the OH to wait at the carousel and head straight out and have the car organised by the time the luggage arrives.

By the way, the rental car park is a just short walk to the left as you exit the terminal. Perpignan is a really handy airport to get in and out of.

    Hi all,
I want to hire a car in France in the summer, tried with a debit card and the hire company put a lock of 500€ on my card(most of my funds) when I hired the car.
I don't want the same to happen whti time round,i got rid of all credit cards previously so is there any way of getting a pre pai/temporary credit card just for this purpose?
    thanks
    John

I used Avis when I was in Croatia last October and booked using a visa debit with no hold on the card.
Now I know its not France but surely the same applies to the same company in France.

You need to check with the local company, each depot can have its own requirements.

In general to rent without a large deposit for damage, you need to take the maximum insurance package.

    insurance cost me €9 a day .
There are brokers that you can also book through with a visa debit as far as I am aware because this was initially how I was going to do it
But again as keithclancy said you may need to check locally with the hire company

I'm going to northern Spain in July for 2 weeks and will need a car.
I'm trawling through websites looking at car hire rates but it's still very hard to figure out how much I'm going to be hit with at the counter when I go to pick up the car. Had a bit of a disaster last year in France, I paid some excess waiver insurance and assumed that was that but got hit with a €750 deposit at the counter which I was unaware of and unable to spare right there so I had to cancel the car hire and forfeit half the fee. First family holiday with the wife and 2 kids and we got stuck in the countryside. Still had a great time but all our plans of sightseeing excursions were ruined.

Obviously this year I'm aware of it but it's still a pain in the arse looking through the fine print to find out how much I'll be hit. A lot of websites don't tell you how much it is at all ("Local deposit may be required".....great, thanks for all the info!!! ). It's fuking frustrating me at this stage.

Can I purchase seperate insurance that completely covers this deposit? What, if any companies, hire cars without emptying your credit card? I'd rather pay higher rental and have the credit card for emergencies.

Any suggestions or reccomendations much appreciated

is it a proper credit card, or a just a visa debit?
If its a proper credit card then you can ask to have the limit raised and then even with a grand hit, you wont notice it.

Otherwise, just use the normal internationally recognised firms like Avis/ Hertz/ Europcar (and if you've a debit card pay the extra insurance to reduce the excess to zero).
Enterprise are a funny one as they ask for a deposit even with a proper credit card, but its only a few hundred rather than the full equivalent of the excess.

How much is it to hire a crappy moped in Crete? Iv checked some sites but its nearly as cheap to hire a small car

Hire a small car, there's a lot of steep hills and mountains over there and tbh a moped would struggle

I prefer a moped. I've bin climbing nearly vertical mountains on one in Asia. A 125 struggled but it was fun

Has anyone had any issues renting a car with a late arrival time? Flight arrives at 11:10 so its not ideal. Has anyone go any recommendations on who to rent from in this situation? Or any recommendations in general...thanks.

Also, FYI for anyone going to Portugal anytime soon there is a new tax being applied to car hire at various airports

    Portugeuse car hire tax

    Car Hire Tax

A “collection fee” of €15 has been levied on all car rentals at Portuguese airports from last Sunday. The Portuguese Airport Authority (ANA) has levied the tax on car hire suppliers who operate out of airport car parks rather than the terminals.

In Faro, the gateway airport to the Algarve, this affects roughly 80 per cent of all car rentals, as the majority of suppliers work out of the airport’s Car Park 4.

The new charge currently only applies to mainland airports including Lisbon, Oporto and Faro, but ANA is considering also applying the surcharge to offshore airports in Madeira and the Azores.

depends on how many days - cheaper per day the more days you do.... about 10 to 15 euro a day I'd say. That was the price for Antiparos a year ago. But as Crete is a bigger island they may charge more (likely to do more km). Don't bother pre-booking - you'll no doubt come across loads there and are in a position to bargain.

good man, handy to have some numbers when you go bargaining with the locals. I got used to paying 2 euro a day in asia. Was shocked with the 25 euro online price, but i was guessing that was with a double middle man cut

try to get less than 10 euro. and don't forget your driving licence!

And make sure your travel insurance covers it.

So I'm renting a car in Prague next month, plan driving to Bratislava and then onto Budapest before returning back to Prague to fly out.

Does anyone know the policies of the rental companies there in relation to bringing the car outside it's origin country? I know here they add on a fee for going up north but was wondering is it the same there, and if so how much and is it per country etc.

Hopefully someone has made a similar trip or knows someone who has.

    Thanks.

I've rented from Sixt at Prague airport before, but only drove within the Czech Republic.

I did take a rental from Brussels into NL late last year & there was no added charge for taking it across the border - I'd imagine it's such a common thing on the Continent that it's considered fairly routine. Your vignette should be covered by the rental firm within the Czech Republic, but it might be an idea to ascertain how toll charges are handled when taking the car into another jurisdiction.

Hi can anyone recommend cheap car hire for nice France. Staying in a eurocamp 60km outside nice. Need car hire for 2 adults and 2 kids. Any recommendations or alternatives. Tks

Went with firefly last year as they were so much cheaper than the rest. Car left a lot to be desired, it used to strain in anything above 3rd gear. Saying that I have ended up going with them again this year, as they are so cheap :D I will just be more careful with the choice of car they give me

These days car are in pretty much any country and USA are nearly always best rented through sites like Kayak.com Rates there are usually around 50% of local companies.

Hmm, I'm looking for just over 2 weeks hire up near Geneva and the companies (Avis, Dollar, Sixt, etc . . .) directly are coming in at about €30 per day, while Kayak is coming in around the same sort of price. Any other suggestions?

    z

Don't know what dates you're looking at, but €30 per day in Switzeraland sounds about right if it includes all taxes and fees (which the listings on kayak do). The good thing I've found about kayak is that it's an all-in price, there are no add-on fees when you get to the desk. Having said that I can usually find cars on Kayak in France (where I mainly rent) for no more than 100 Euro for a week's rental.

Hired a car from Hertz in Nice a few years back, got well treated by them. Booked an Astra and got upgraded to a BMW, mind you it was only a 106 I think but did the job.
