You need to get a satellite dish first off, and then a free-to-air or Freesat receiver to connect to it.

You can pick up free-to-air (or FTA) satellite receivers in many places, from hardware retailers to DoneDeal etc. But if you are unsure about it all, I would strongly advise you buying a 'Freesat' branded box. Freesat is the UK free satellite service, and it comes with good software that will automatically update your box when new channels come online. Thing is because Freesat is for the UK market, you might not be able to buy it in your local Currys or Harvey Norman store, but you should be able to pick up a box in a classifieds advert or online from the likes of Amazon etc.

You can also get a box which will allow you to record TV, these have hard drives built in and it will let you watch your recorded programmes whenever it suits you. You can also set it to record a series of a certain programme every week. It can also pause live TV if you need to nip out of the room for a cuppa etc.

Anyway, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

    Sorry, forgot about prices.

I would guess to get a dish bought and a basic Freesat box you would be looking at maybe €150, then maybe another €50 - €70 to have it installed. But just estimates.

If the op has saorview approved t.v he will not need a combo box ,he might be better going for a freesat hd box.I do agree with you on the ariva boxs I fitted alot of them for friends and neighbours without any problems.

Saves the hassle of switching over and back too and using multiple remotes
