I am just starting work on my garden and plan on growing some veg, I have grown, peas, carrots, leeks and onions, spuds and spinach before in pots and containers, but starting some raised beds and want to try butternut squash.

    Has anyone grown it before?

    How does it do?
I have a lovely sunny spot only in shade for an hour or two early morning and late evening, and have started a compost bin to use in the bed for the squash, I know they are hungry buggers.

    Any advice welcome!

I haven't tried them outside but I had my first go at growing them last year in a polytunnel and it was very successful. They require a fair bit of watering but largely hassle free. They do like to creep around the place but once they flower and start to grow you can nip off the creepers. We had around 20 and still have half a dozen or so still in storage. For that reason I would definitely grow again.

I'm hoping to start them in a cold frame I'm placing on a raised bed, then lift off the cold frame (it's small and light so ideal for this).
Thanks for reply, I'd love to know the best way to store them, looking forward to all that delicious soup!
About how many did you get per plant?
