TT Helmet

    Hi,

This one is for the big headed cyclist among us. Currently on the search for a TT helmet and have tried two so far which were very incomfortable even just for the 30 seconds/minute I had them on. I couldn't imagine riding for an hour plus with the level of discomfort.

    I tried a Bell meteor medium (55-59cm) and a specialized TT2 large (55-61cm).

Had my heart set on the specialized helmet but it was just too tight a fit.

I currently use a specialized pro pero II hemlet in large (57-63cm) which is very comfortable and have previously ridden with Giro helmets in large.

Anybody got any suggestions for a large headed gent? Or is it in fact normal for these to be uncomfortable?

Alas I think discomfort comes with the territory so far as TT helmets are concerned - all the "fast" ones seem to (understandably) try and minimise frontal area. My biggest issue tends to be the ones with visors where actually getting them on is a challenge because I'm wearing glasses

One that is comfortable, although a bit wider than most, is the Kask K.31 chrono - the visor is on hinges meaning it's easy to put on and then bring the visor down.

    Not cheap mind ...

Thanks Beasty. I met an experienced TT guy on here to view the Bell helmet and he explained that these helmets are not built for comfort but to shave a few seconds off.

Might try a few more before committing to a purchase.

I'm guessing the pain in my legs will negate any discomfort I feel above.

A standard test of a big head is to try and put a snooker triangle over it :D

I had the same issue myself, the Giro Advantage was killing my ears, I tested a few for sizing and the Spiuk Kronos which came in at 59-61 was surprisingly comfortable

Ha, I've got a century break from my teenage years and I can confirm as a teenager the triangle won't fit over my head so now it certainly will not. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll try that lid.
