    Hi Guys,

My mam is having an issue with her 02 punto. Last week after driving it around, she got out to do a bit of shopping and on her return it wouldn't start. It would turn over but just wouldn't fire up. I noticed the key code light on the dash was lighting up yellow and the engine management light was on. The car was brought to a mechanic who first though it was a fuel sensor which now turns out not to be the case. He is still working on it, has anyone else had this problem?? Could it be immobiliser?? Or key need to be recoded?? How much to recode roughly??

If the key code was lighting up permanently instead of turning off after few seconds, that it looks like immobileiser problem.
Could be the key, but also could be the wiring or ECU.

Can the immobiliser be disconnected and would this sort out the issue??

I might be wrong, but AFAIR punto immobileiser is intergrated with ECU, so without changing ECU (or decoding it) you can't disable it.

Not sure what else has been done, he did say in a phone conversation that if whatever has to be recoded it could cost around the same value of the car itself.

Plus its about €15 from a scrapyard tops, a new one is €60 ish from Fiat. Make sure you get the right one for the engine :)
