2004 avensis timing belt tools?

    Hi all,

I need to do the avensis's timing belt in the next few weeks as it has reached it's milage. It is the 2.0 D4D version.

I had a look at the service manual and all seems pretty straightfoward apart from the crankshaft pully removal.

Does anyone know of any generic tools that I can get at a reasonable cost to hold the crankshaft while I undo and retighten the bolt (no impact gun here!), and a puller that will work with it?

I see that the bolt is torqued to 180nm, will I even be able to remove this by hand with a 3ft power bar?

I saw a video on youtube where the guy wedged the breaker bar against the chasis and cranked the engine for a second to crack the bolt. Is this an option or is that a really bad idea?

As for the puller, are these hard to come by?

    Thanks,

    Ken

Are you going to change the water pump?

Are you going to change the water pump?

I will. It wasn't done the last time on Toyotas recommendation but I don't want to let it run again!

as a last resort you can use a breaker bar, but get the direction of rotation correct, or you'll break the bolt and end up changing the crankshaft.

Do you know how big a job it is to change the water pump on these? Suffice to say it isn't your usual few bolts and an extra ten minutes while doing the belt. If changing the pump then maybe you should consider getting a garage to do the job.

Would it be ok to leave it? No funny noises, no coolant drips ect. I saw it was pretty big for a water pump alright. What makes it difficult?
