I'm looking to buy a Mavic Wheelset. Its between the Mavic Ksyrium Elite S (500 euro) and the Mavic Ksyrium Equipe S (400 euro). Can anyone tell me if the elite s is worth the extra 100 euro? Are they smoother, stronger, stiffer, faster?
    Any advice would be appreciated
    Cheers

I presume these come with the tyre system? Go for the Elites. Better rim, hub and spokes. Light and stiff, sharing features with the more expensive Ksyriums.

I've said it before, the Equipes are just a slightly lighter version of the Aksiums. Same rim and spokes. Still good but not worth the price difference between over the Aksiums.

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to know if they where worth extra money. You just answered my question. Going to get a set next week to go with my new Ridley Orion frame :-P
    cheers

Cycling plus did a review on wheels in February's magazine on wheels up to £350. Some serious wheels for the money

I have the Elites and Equipes. To be honest the Equipes are not that much better than Aksium (one Boardsie described the Equipes as Aksium pluses).
I had problems with spokes coming loose and turning and the front axle developed play after 2 days(200km).

If you can fork out the extra €100 I'd go for the elites. But saying that I've ridden the equipes alot since the LBS took them back in for a tune up and had no probs since.

Freehubs on Kysriums don't last, the brushing wears down the *actual* body and its a pain in the hole. I have a set, never go mavic again.

How much better are the elites over the askiums? Are they worth paying an extra €250 for and would you notice a difference?

    1jcdub,
I have the Equipes (2 pairs actually) and they are a great wheel for the money.

First pair I have had for 2 years, the 2nd pair I got on Boards from a new bike that had a wheelset change.

The only issue I had was that the newest set had shipped with loose spokes (see thread elsewhere as it had happened to other riders too)

Anyways, enough of the BS..Here is the good news...

Mavic sale on this week in Merlin...

LBS are doing Elites for €550 - tubes/tyres/fitted - without trawling through various online sources, is this a decent price, or will I do much better buying online ?

Richies bike store in swords has them at 550 but I'm sure you'll get them cheaper than that for cash.
I'm picking mine up on Monday, tyres etc included B-)
