https://www.motorcheck.ie provides that bit of information for free. It comes up with "This car is a UK Import" on the top right after you run the plate.

The high reg numbers are a good indication now.

I can't see how whether it comes from the uk is important. If you were doing essential checks like service history or whether it was a write off, where it came from would be obvious.

Can you explain?. I have a UK import, reg number is 4 digits.

Yeah.. just did a search on dd for Vauxhall and tried that:

I don't think it shows anything if it's *not* an import.

Well in that case it's just not there. And considering I imported the car myself, I'm 99.9999% sure it's an import :p so I wouldn't be 100% trustworthy of using that system to check cars.

Can you explain?. I have a UK import, reg number is 4 digits.

Under the new system imports are allocated numbers that begin much higher than the Irish registered cars. In Dublin for example I think the first number in the import sequence is 120000.

...but even under the old system, all of the Irish reg numbers are allocated (and that year has passed) before the imports come in, so how you have a four digit import reg is a mystery to me... Unless it was in a county with low registration numbers, or imported new?

I guess the motorcheck data isn't perfect in that case.

I would imagine they show the Import thing in a big red box to try and entice people to buy a report so no reason to not show it really.
