What's the course and what are you hoping to do after? If your results are top quality it might not be so important.

Posting this question in the NUIM forum isn't exactly going to give you a good impartial answer IMO

Reputation tends to belong to a particular University department and not so much the University itself :)

^Exactly. Sometimes even to particular lecturers.

What is it you're interested in studying, soccertom95?

    Studying management!

As far I know nuim's masters courses have a 100% employment record for graduates and it means jobs they actually wanted.

They team you up with a major company where you help them with a problem and then you come up with a solution a lot get hired by the company they worked with. I'm not sure if thats the case for management but it is for the MA in strategy and innovation.

Hi guys is NUIM a party school? (I don't want a party scool) an what type of people tend to go to NUIM? (Like reputation) I'm studying management... Thanks!

MOD NOTE: THREADS MERGED, SAME BASIC QUESTION ASKED IN BOTH BY OP

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but I'm curious too.

My brother is in the same situation,

He's deciding between computer science & business at Trinity and BBS Entrepreneurship at NUIM. CAO codes are tr082 & mh411 I believe.

He's interested in working abroad, so reputation is important & Trinity is internationally recognized. He's thinking of doing his MA in strategy & innovation, has anyone any experience with it?

    Thanks,

All types of people attend! Its a very friendly mix of people in my experience. In terms of it being a party school, you can do as much it as little partying as you want! The town is lively enough at night times, but that doesn't define the college.

It's fine! I'm actually from the United States! So as far as reputation abroad I know enployers in the US find it very marketable that you have a degree from another country (Ireland). I'm just trying to find out the reputation of NUIM in Ireland...I don't want a party school....

There are no defined "party-schools" in Ireland:D If you are willing to study and put in the work its a good school, if you do s.f.a. until the date of your exams its a party school:)

I lived in Kildare so all my friends went to Maynooth but Im going to UL. I think most people judge the area the university is in more than the quality of student. So when I get home, they slag me about being a "scumbag" from Limerick, but their all "culchies" so it doesn't matter:D All in jest, man:P

I'm curious as to what your definition of a "party school" is.
As far as reputation of the University as a whole, it is very well respected, with a constantly increasing number of applicants per year. The individual departments all have specific specialities and have a range of expertise in their fields. Students are expected to work hard for their degrees.
The Students' Union, alongside NUIM staff, encourage involvement in extra curricular activities (clubs and societies on campus). This involvement is recommended by both as it ensures students experience the benefits of education and involvement in other activities, enriching them as a whole. This involvement is rewarded to certain students at their graduation (in the form of the Extra Curricular Activity Award).

The university is unique in it's location in a village, so respect for the local community is important. Nights out in the village are usually very busy and there is a strong social element to the university. This social element does not necessarily equate to drinking and partying every night. The amount you party is up to each individual person, depending on what your interests are or not.

That was a very long post, but anyway! Hope it answers your question.

    Cool the US, what part?

As for "party school" I wouldn't call it that either. Sure it's not as "formal" as the likes of trinity, but there's a lot of worse ones out there.

I believe it was ranked by princeton as one of the top 300 and something universities in the world. It was the only university outside of the US that was ranked!

Thanks! I'm from Boston! Can't wait to study in Ireland, which one would you recommend? Trinity or NUIM? That's my biggest issue! I can't decide which!

Trinnity would have the better reputation (in Ireland and internationally) - but your nor going to get an unbiased opinion here. Most of the people here will have chosen to go to Maynooth so obviously they think its better than trinity.

My advice would be to decide if you want to live in a city or a small town. The actual going to classes and doing assignments isn't going to vary wildly across Irish Universities. Living in Dublin and living in Maynooth, however, are very different experiences.
