Be wary of a certain car dealer in Mayo!

Evening guys, just wanted to put this up here as a warning to anyone in the market and to highlight the antics of a certain dealer here in Mayo.
I won't name them for now but I will say they have a garage just outside Castlebar and another in Ballinrobe...go figure!

Anyway my parents have been looking for a Corolla for the last few weeks and last Saturday we found one in the above garage. I called the sales rep who was "all talk" (as the ad says) and we arranged to meet on Sunday to take a look. He then called me back a while later asking me to wait until Monday as the car was being valeted and would not be ready.

So Monday came and after leaving work early we made it to Ballinrobe, to be greeted by another member of staff who informed us that neither the sales rep I agreed to meet, or the car, was there!

The car had been out on loan for the previous week and was due back this Wednesday just gone. As you could imagine I got quiet the shock and questioned the whole case, but as I was told already the car was on loan and the salesman, on his day off.

I asked for the details of the manager and was given his phone number to contact him to highlight the situation. He wasn't overly apologetic at the whole thing but did agree that it should not have happened and took my details to contact me as soon as the car came back into stock as we were to be given first refusal on it.

That was last Monday and I haven't heard anything since. Needless to say, even if he did call at this stage I wouldn't be going back but I think this needs to be highlighted. I would go as far as naming and shaming them but I'm not sure on forum rules. Besides, anyone from the area already knows who I'm referring to.

I don't think garages can afford to be so careless when it comes to customers, especially in these times. It just goes to show the lack of appreciation from both sales and management within a company.

What are yer opinions? I'd be interested to hear.

Its poor show, my parents have bough cars of them, the owner, for around 15+ years without an issue, that said they always dealt with the head man and not the sales guys, one of whom I dealt with and he was a plum.

Funny though, over the last week I have emailed probably 20 garages looking for a price on a new car and outlined what deposit I had and what price they could it and finance. 7 of them came back in total and none of the rest replied.

So they ain't that bothered! :D

I really thought it was, compared to a dealer in the North that I've dealt with who traveled down to Sligo with a car for inspection and again for delivery.

In fairness the older sales man in Ballinrobe was very helpful in giving me the details of the manager and a genuine story as to where the car was.

I'd be inclined to think some of the younger staff don't give two hoots compared to the last generation who knew the customers by name!

Reminds me of an incident that happened me a few years back with a large German car dealer in Rathangan Co Kildare. I saw a car fancied on their site and arranged a viewing but would appreciate a call informing if the car was sold in the meantime. So i went to see the car and yes - it was sold! The sales guy I spoke to on the phone claims he never spoke to me and tried to get me interested in another more expensive model emphasizing that there was no guarantee on the car and no comeback at all if anything happened so I firmly told him to f*ck off and walked out shouting at the top of my voice - "don't buy anything from these liars!! making sure all other customers heard me.

Have to agree there, if it was "J" or "C" you were speaking to, you really should have gotten some satisfaction and I would be surprised.

The garage in the North wasn't in Tyrone by any chance? OC been the initials?

It was in fact a "C" who promised a call back when the car arrived on Wednesday. Still waiting.

No it wasn't that far up at all, Enniskillen actually. I found him very helpful and I got a very good car from him too. I've gone back, he just hasn't had what I've been looking for but I'd have no issues in recommending him to anyone.

How much was the car that was sold from under your feet? How much was the dearer car with no warranty? Do you often use expletives when dealing with people?

Should a potential customer tell me to F off I'd run him out of the place.
