    Classic Motorsport Evening

    Following the success of their earlier events, the Limerick Classic & Vintage Car Club are holding another Classic Motorsport Evening on Friday March 1st at the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel Limerick at 8pm . This is near the University of Limerick and just off M7 junction 28 .

    Featuring;

    - Rosemary Smith, the first lady of Irish motorsport, back by popular demand to share more of her adventures. First hand accounts of the Tulip Rally, London-Sydney Rally, the Circuit of Ireland etc., racing at Dunboyne, the Irish Land Speed Record and much more.

    - Irish man Jim Gavin is coming specially from the UK to talk about his career in motorsport. To include doing the Circuit of Ireland in a Ford Consul, the 1968 London Sydney Rally in an Escort and drag racing the twin engined 'Twinny' Mini special. Jim was also involved in the Deep Sanderson (mid engined mini-powered sportsracer) Le Mans effort of the 1960s and organising many of the long distance rallies of the 1970s. Hear about pulling a drowning Escort from the river Ganges with a 100 year old elephant and rescuing Stirling Moss when lost in the Sahara during the 1974 World Cup Rally. Jim also pioneered ride - on lawnmower racing.....Unmissable!

    Lots of photos & slides never seen before.

    What a great evening... some super stories from Rosemary Smith and Jim Gavin.
    Very well put together and hosted by the Limerick Classic and Vintage car club, well done lads!!

    Just finished uploading all the video footage from the evening and really its hard to know what to cut from it, its nearly a video in itself.

    Also it was great to meet two of ye boards people, whom till now only knew you by your nick names on here. Now I can put a face to the names :)

    Enjoyed and thanks

    Horses for courses, found her boring, my pin up of 45 years ago. Silly giggles, bad acoustics, poor snap shots. Joined a few more, and left at the interval, but delighted to support the Limerick Club on a well organised night. :):)

    I agree Horses for courses, for those who may not of heard Rosemary before well it was a sure laugh.

    Ah now mattroche :) when were those snap shots taken !! 40 plus years ago! and ok the projector didnt help matters but for me it was fantastic to see such photos.

    Now Jim Gavin stories well, all I wanted was his job way back then.. Envy ;) that would of been a magic career.
