Before Android and ITunes came the Palm operating system and Palm is owned by Hewlett Packard.

HP run an App Store for Palm. In this App store there recently appeared an App named after an ancient Rock singer named Chubby Checker. Lest anyone wonder the APP is called Chubby Checker.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21471967
The Chubby Checker app - which appeared on websites for Palm OS devices - claimed to guess the intimate measurement based on shoe size.[

and Chubby no doubt had the lawyers queueing around the block for the gig. :D
"He's hurt," his lawyer Willie Gary told Associated Press.
"He worked hard to build his name and reputation over the years.
"We cannot sit idly and watch as technology giants, or anyone else, exploits the name or likeness of an innocent person with the goal of making millions of dollars."

And so they sued for $500 million. :D

The German firm behind the offending program, Magic Apps, is no longer selling the software.

...so why sue HP? They didn't make it.

How can he sue anyone over it? It's not even his real name ffs

Also, 'chubby' has been a slang term for erection since the 20's so it's not as if the developers are responsible for the negative connotations.

What? A private corporation fucks up and the Irish taxpayer is not expected to pay for the losses of this private corporation?

    We can't be having this.

If they had only called it THE chubby checker they might have been ok. I'm sure he'll give the money to charity, thatd be the classy thing to do

I read about that yesterday. It only had 84 sales. Think it was $0.79, good luck enjoying that windfall.
