    Howdy folks :D
I have a large NE facing dormer room that's always cold. Today the sun was shining and the southerly facing bedrooms were lovely but dormer room was dark and cold. Was thinking about a velux on the south side of the dormer bedroom to let in more light and hopefully warm up the room. Will this have a negative effect at night though? Would I be losing much heat through the velux?

You can get thermal blinds, which would help - something like this

Buy yourself a set of Velux solar powered blackout blinds

They really are a great blind and are fully thermal and blackout too.I have them on my large GU-S06 sized Velux windows, and they are fantastic.:)

20 seconds from fully closed to fully opened.

Voila.......exact U-Values for all Velux glass panes.

Ours has the 60 pane in them, builder never told us about the triple glazed option at the time.

But the solar powered blackout blinds more than makes up for that.

One last question. The room in which the velux would be going has a flat ceiling. Would this negate things in any way? *looks for camera*

That would depend more on your insulation, presumably you would then have a tunnel up to the Velux, and the tunnel would have to be well insulated. Either way, heat will always move to the highest spot..
