Anybody ever get this letter from sky about missing equipment?

Bought this sky hd 1TB boxes from adverts less than a year ago and they sent a letter to me about it today

Goes is into this sky hd box missing from their stock and they have no records to show that this box was intended for installation at my home and they want to know the supplier was, how much I paid and who fitted the box

I originally paid 100 euro for the sky hd 1TB box, I knew that was cheap as chips and not quite right but I also thought it might have been a refurbished box so since I received the box its very good (besides sky's awful software)

Sky also said that they arent looking to recover the equipment at this time

I heard of a case a few years ago where a load of boxes were stolen then sold on cheaply.Of course Sky copped it as they had records of the serial numbers so as soon as anyone rang to pair a card it was flagged.

Cheap brand new boxes would raise suspicion.

I'd ignore it to see if they follow up. Don't give it to them or allow them into your house without a warrant. No point in being out of pocket. No harm in giving them the info though

Goes to show its risky business in purchasing second hand equipment especially when the price is way too low. I would imagine if sky can prove the equipment is stolen then they could retrieve it from you but glad they aint for now...

I heard recently that an installer is missing a lot of boxes and sky believe he has sold them so they have flagged the boxes on their system for when they are paired to cards.

Surely an installer of all people would know that the serial numbers are recorded & tracked.
