Hi folks, hope it's OK to do this here.

I have been training for the Barcelona Marathon. Last Sunday i ran 18 miles, but on Tuesday I was hit with a chest infection. Went to Doc on Wednesday for anti biotics and assoon as i started taking them I started having bad diarrhea.

So I either picked up a bug as well or I'm not having a good reaction to the anti biotic. Called the doctor and he said to reduce dose and I'm feeling a little better. Anti biotics finish on Sunday.

I'm afraid I'm gonna miss this full weeks training, the plan was 5-10-5-14. That's 34 miles in total. Next week it's 5-10-5-20, I.e. my biggest mileage week and longest long run.

My fear is that after being sick for this week, will I be able for that mileage next week. It's tapering after that, the race is 17 March.

Any advice on how to go about it from here or am I up sh1t Creek?

Don't stress out. Your marathon is still a month away. Yes, it's not ideal to lose a week training due to illness, but take it easy, make sure you're healthy, and the rest might be a blessing.

Why not just go with a 2 week taper? Having a complete rest week 5 weeks out, then resume with what the plan was. I don't agree with a 3 week taper in any case, its too long, and you get stale.

But honestly, don't panic. In the past, I've missed chunks of training due to various things, and still managed alright.
