Revenue - if filing date falls on a weekend

If the filing deadline for a return falls on a weekend, do you have until the following Monday to file it, or should it be in on the Friday? I always thought you had until the Monday, but my boss thinks it's the Friday and he's looking for some solid source but I can't find anything on Revenue's website.

The deadline for the P35 online filing is 23rd February (Saturday). We have a client who is a huge amount of hassle and work so that extra day would make a big difference.

On the basis that it's an extension for online filing, it's 23 Feb.

Rule of thumb on these things, presume it's the earlier of the two.

That way if you are wrong you are still compliant.

It'll have to be in on the Friday.

You're into late filing on the Monday.

You could of course post it on the Saturday and have it post stamped as such.

I would err on the side of getting it in on Friday, if they are an important client, go in on Saturday if needs be.

However, I remember a few years ago a client's corporation tax return was due for filing on the Sunday, client did not approve the return until the Monday morning and it was filed then (a day late). Revenue applied the automatic 5% surcharge for late filing. We rang the local tax office, appealled that it was due the Sunday, the office was closed and it was filed the next working day. They removed the surcharge then.

But seeing as the P35 deadline is already extended from 15th til 23rd Feb for online filing, I can't see the Revenue giving any more leniency.

Thanks for the replies folks. I'll hopefully have it done for Friday. I'll head in on Saturday if needs be.
