Intermittent fault on DM800

    Hi All

Recently I am getting intermittent messages on some channels “tune failed” It also happens on the FTA channels. Sometimes rebooting solves the problem & other times if I flick from channel to channel it sorts it out.

I have a DM800 clone. Last year I changed the tuner to the ALPS 801A revision M tuner because SS1 hd was glitching. It resolved the problem at the time.

I’m just wondering is this the tuner giving trouble again or could there be another issue ?

    Thanks:)

    Barr

im having exactly the same problem, but its not happening all the time. Ive tried to rule out DECT phones and wifi, but still havent it sussed. Its only happening on HD channels.

I've had that problem before and it was due to the tuner over-heating, have you a hard drive or something in the box, or is the box in a cabinet or something like that?

no internal hard drive, plus ive a laptop cooling fan underneath it. But that statement of it over heating does make sense.

I dont think there are any vents underneath

It might be just the tuner that's over heating, gone dodgy or something, I had a QBox Mini with dual tuners that kept acting up like you are describing, sometimes the EPG would be blank as well (N/A for channel listings), took out tuner B, same problem, took out tuner A and put in tuner B, hey presto problem solved.

It most likely is a tuner issue alright or firmware issue, have you tried to re-image?

    Its the tuner over heating.

I had the same problem before. Had a dm800hd and got a laptop fan for it the day I bought it... Was away one week and the laptop fan was plugged out unknown to me.. The box heated up so much you could fry and egg off it and the tuner kept freezing.

No matter what image they say to try, its a hardware problem!

Get a laptop fan off ebay or in a pound shop and stick it under the dm800hd.

    Will work a treat!

My internal fan went last year as well. I replaced it with an upgraded version and added a laptop cooler, which was running 24/7.

I don’t think the DM800 is over heating as such. Its been fine for over a year with the newer tuner but for some reason its started giving trouble again :(

Is the ALPS 801A revision M tuner still the latest tuner or is there a better replacement these days ?

Could be a bug in the image you are using .
I was having a similar issue on DM800HD SE , I changed the image from Dream-elite to open pli and issue stopped.
