What screen size would you be looking at?
    Is battery life important?
    Is mobility important?

With a budget of 500 Euro, do not settle for anything less than a Core i5 processor.

Sorry to hijack thread your thread but am interested in thoughts on this myself as my laptop is nearing end of life & 500 is about my budget too..

Why do you suggest an i5 processor? Is the performance noticeably better than the i3??

I ended up with an Ausus x54c i3 dule core 4 gig of ram for 449 in harvey normans, seems to be fast enought for what I need.

    Thanks for the advice ;)

Of course, a Core i3 is sufficient for for most users by today's standard, so if you don't really need the "horsepower", you might get a Core i3 for €100 less instead. Money you can put to good use elsewhere, buy a solid state disk for example (much better responsiveness and indeed robustness).

If I really want to spend 500 yoyos on a regular laptop, I certainly would not buy a Core i3.

Thanks for your swift reply.. think I will keep watching out on Argos for an i5 within my buget (have a voucher for here).. would 4GB of RAM be sufficient or would i better off getting 6?

Would primarily be used for web browsing, office (word excel), watching videos & connecting to tv.. unlikely to be used for much gaming..

RAM? The more the better! ;)

But if you spot a nice deal with only 4 GB, don't hesitate. RAM is cheap and upgrade is easy.
