The FULL video from RTE - magic stuff :)

    http://www.rte.ie/archives/2013/0214/367731-journey-through-dublin-city-1966/

A journey through the streets of Dublin city in 1966. Broadcast on 14 February, 1966, 'Discovery' takes a look at the job of the Dublin bus driver.

While edited versions of this footage have been doing the rounds lately, RTÉ Archives presents here the complete footage of the journey from the quays, up to Christchurch, down Lord Edward Street, on to Dame Street, Westmorland Street and ending at D'Olier Street. The clip is taken directly from the original programme as it was broadcast. The commentary describes the training process for bus drivers and the qualities required of a bus driver.

Many changes have taken place around Dublin since this programme was filmed, and this is perhaps the most interesting aspect of this programme. One of the more obvious changes is the vision of Nelson's pillar which can be seen from the junction of Westmoreland Street and D'Olier Street. This episode of 'Discovery' was broadcast just weeks before Nelson's pillar was bombed on 8 March, 1966
