Did anybody watch it this evening ? There was a fella on it that hoped to reach 28 sucklers ,selling all his weanlins . He currently had debt of 300,000 between sheds and stocking loans  Did I hear this right ?
I rewound it there and he said land was also included in those borrowings

That's what I heard. His also has little or no single payment and they said the single payment is the only profit suckler farmers make. He must be farming for fun.

Ear to the Ground wouldn't have a nasty topic like dehorning on..its a LIFESTYLE programme lads...any allusion to farming is purely coincidental..bring back Landmark!!!and the big fat lad who used to give the cattle prices...can you imagine that on RTE in 2013!!

They should split it into two programmes - one that has the lifestyle stuff, countryside as an amenity and all that; and one that is PURE farming, talking about best practice for different things (like dehorning;)) what's happening with CAP etc. That way you know what you're getting

I know some people call it a beauty spot but it always annoys me. Maybe it's her calling card. Makes her stand out from the crowd. To be fair she is the best journalist on the programme.

The two guys had a great setup. Obviously very like minded people. Their system seems to be really working for them. I would say its very rare to see two neighbours that could pull off what they have done. Seem to have spent alot of money, and have a fantastic setup. Looks like its working for them

P.s. what breed were the cows. Are they Norwegian crosses. Nice type

Just saw the repeat. Was there supposed to something on about dehorning?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,881 ✭✭✭mf240

This is all my fault, rellig was wondering if the programme makers look on here for ideas.

At the same time there was a big debate ongoing in chit chat about dehoring which was getting slightly heated, so as a joke I said it would be about dehorning the following week.
