Needed advice on how much car is worth.

I'm planning to sell my car and as usual I never had problem with estimating it's value, but now I'm just genuinely not sure.

    It's a 2004 Mazda 6 TS2 2.0 petrol saloon with 122k miles on the clock. Nct until 5/14

There is quite a plenty of those mazdas for sale, but vast majority of them is in the lowest trim level with 1.8 petrol engine.

2.0 is much more suitable for this car, gives some extra power which is nice, and returns nearly the same MPG. However is there any chance anyone will be willing to pay more in today's economical climate for bigger engine car, or does it rather works other way? (difference in tax is only 74 euro).

As it's TS2 version, car has got ESP, Sunroof, Bose 7 speaker audio-system with added Xcarlink for MP3 playback, Cruise control, Automatic climate control, rear spoiler... All those is not available in basic version. But again - does this add any value to 9 years old car?

Mechanically it's grand, but there is few rust spots (mostly on rear wheels arches which is typical for these mazdas).

Clutch, brakepads (all 4 corners) and rear brake discs were done last year (15k miles ago) and I've got receipts for that. I'm the 3rd owner, and it was serviced regularly by me (i have no receipts for that) and I was told it was serviced regularly by previous owner as well, but the same story (no proof)

In general I remember when I was buying it, I went around to see many of those mazdas, and most of them were in horrible condition, while I consider mine to be good.
But on the other hand, I would prefer to have it sold fairly quickly and not wait half a year until I find an enthusiast which will be happy to pay extra for all above. However I don't want to let it go too cheap as well.

On donedeal this year mazda seem to be advertised between 2000 and 4000, but as I said most of them are 1.8 with lowest trim level (f.e. even without alloy wheels).
On carsilreland there is only few of 2004 for between 3000 and 4000, but they are mostly dealer adds.

How much can I realistically get for this car?

    Thanks for any advices.

Might get €2500 for it imo.

I was kinda hoping for much more, but below 3000 seems unreasonable.
Or is it really that bad when it comes to big petrol engine cars (big in Irish understanding) ;)

    Hopefully I'm wrong :)
How long do you have it and what did you pay for it?

3920 in July 2011. And price was reduced as clutch was near the end of it's life so I bargained with the seller from 4200, and I had to do the clutch.

    I'm with RJ. 2500-2750.

There is sadly no market for petrol cars with HUGE engines.

I think one went on Dd earlier in the sane spec, engine etc etc with half the mileage. Worth watching

03 diesel ts2 on dd for just under 3k 106k miles.

I'd say €2200 private and about €1800-€2k in a garage maybe.

Would a 2-litre engine be considered as small, medium, large or the one you just named it?

One thing buying this mazda in diesel is a big risk - but do buyers know it???
Another thing is that on that one you are talking about NCT expires next month.
Why the seller won't do NCT?
    Sounds dodgy.

If 2003 diesel with small bit less mileage and almost expired NCT is advertised for 2995, then you think my 2004 petrol is worth only 2200?

Yes your PETROL. Nobody wants a large petrol engine and most dealers wont even take them as a trade in.

Don't ask for an opinion then get all stroppy when someone tells you you're car isn't worth 10k.

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. how much do you think it's worth??

06 one on there with half your mileage for €4800 probably knock a few hundred off.

If you got €2500 that'd be €1420 depreciation in 18 months, add in the €280 you haggled off for the clutch and it's €1700 :)

Doesn't seem too bad to me if you got €2500 for it.

Dearest 2004 mazda 6 on carzone is a dealer selling one for 3250. There are 2 under 2,000 and that is without people looking to haggle the price down further. Yes they will be different specs but that is your market

You have had the car for nearly 2 years at this stage so I wouldn't be to surprised by the deprecation on it

I was hoping to get some above 3000... Maybe 3100, 3200 would be ideal.
But after reading your answers, I start doubting I will be able to get that much

As I was saying there may always be that one person who wants exactly what you have but most people shy away from petrol engines with high mileage.

the only way to find out is to test the water and see. You'll find out quick enough one way or the other.

    Where can you see that?
Out of 17 2004 mazda 6's on carzone,, there is only one below 2000, and 4 below 3000. All of them in low spec. Also there is 2 over 4000.
    Many of them private.

OP, here are a few 2007 Mazda 6 1.8 litre asking under €4.5k so it is very unlikely you will get €3k for a 2004 2.0 litre model.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4388485

While your car has alot of extras they will not add any extra monetory value to the car and the way the Irish motorist's mind set is the 2.0 litre motor tax would be enough to put some folks off. Imo anyone in the market for a 9 year old 2.0 litre petrol car will want to buy it cheap in order to absorb the motor tax. I think around €2500 is a fair assessment of it's current value imo.

My brother sold his 2005 petrol last year but found it very difficult. It was a higher spec model with 140k miles on the clock. He had a full main dealer service history and had only recently got a new clutch in. He put it up initially for €3,800 as he had spent a bit on regular maintenance that year. He didn't get a sniff at that price and gradually over about nine months reduced the price. He got €2,000 for it in the end. I guess petrol and 'high' mileage are not that desirable.

If someone offered me €3k for that I would be taking it.

Ha no, I wouldn't have any interest in a mazda 6 tbh. That is genuinly what I think it will fetch.

OP I see you've your car up on donedeal for €3450. Best of luck with selling it at that price and those miles. Unfortunately no one wants 2.0 cars as they're more expensive to run on a daily basis as well as dearer tax and insurance.

There are 06 1.8 models available with almost half the mileage yours has for the same price.

Being honest, you will be extremely lucky to sell that car for anywhere near your asking price. Drop the price to 2500 and be prepared to take less if you really want rid of it.

Purely my opinion but I see a car fully loaded with extras adding more to the appeal of it rather than the value of it.
