i have a ford v6 that has been parked up for quite some while. its blowing blue smoke while running. i was hoping it might be just oil gunk in the vacuume hoses but when i remove the breather pipe to see if the smoke dies down the engine just cuts out, is this normal?

Look for a user called Corktina, they might be able to shed some light :)

BTW I thought your thread was about a smoking Isuzu!

Take it out for a good long blast to blow the crap that has built up in the engine/exhaust/cat over time.

Which breather pipe did you remove? Or do you mean the air intake pipe?

Block the vacuum hose at the manifold side before pulling it out. That will most likely stop it dieing when testing it out.

Personally, if it's not making any knocking or metallic noises, I would take it for a longish run keeping eye at the fluid levels. If oil looks really dirty I'd change that first.
