Slicing !!!

Im the best slicer of the ball i know.
As a leftie, when playing a dog leg left my driving is perfect :D
But when its the opposite im screwed!!

90% of my drives I slice, they start right and drift across the fairway. I find myself aiming more right now as i know the ball will come back across and hopefully land on the fairway. Im scoring ok believe it or not, but its getting worrying that i can hit the ball straigh (ish)

I've tried to change stance, grip, , body pos, ensure im rigid etc
    Any tips for me ?

I got a useful tip from a golf pro a few years to help cure my slice. When you practice. Stick a short stick about 6 ins high in the ground about 15 ins in front of the ball along the line that you want the ball to go. Try to hit the ball and also clip the top of the stick with your follow-through. It will force you to come more inside the ball with your downswing and to continue along the line of the shot. I found this to be very helpful. Good luck.

one major mistake people make and i see it all the time is if the ball slices for a player (ie right handed golfer slices to the right) the line up there feet even more left to compensate for the slice. what people dont realise is the more left the aim there feet the worse the slice is. you could setup for a draw by having your feet (for a right hander) aiming to the right of target but club face aiming at target. this would help reduce slice.....

This is exactly what i do. As a leftie im aiming out right so it comes back in and lands on fairway. Its when i aim straight, that i go way left !!!

I will try some tips, and sorry i should have searched the thread first.
    Thanks for the responses.
I dont think i'll get away with hitting the range later on Valentines Day though :pac:

Definitely head to the range and start trying to hit some draws.
If you try to do it on the course you wont have the confidence to do it properly as you will initially still slice the crap out of it.
If you are on the course, try to flatten out your swing be swinging while standing facing up a hill. (Side of a tee is good for this)

However....bottom line to fix it properly is go get a lesson :)

well im hopeing to hit the range this evening..... secretly of course...... i need to fake a puncture or something:) but forsure you cant fix your swing on the course, the range is the best place..... and the driver can be a frustrating weapon.......

No need to lie to the missus, just text her to say that you've had a problem "driving" home.

Tell her when you are driving home you need to pick up a sliced pan but when you get in you will draw her a bath.

Or just tell her that you're working on your "out to in" movement along with your over rotation of the hips in order to create a better and straighter ball flight... She should be pleased to hear that ;)

Grabbing my coat, I'm outta here

Agree with this. You should get a lesson.

If you don't want to do that then go to the range and try to draw a 6 or 7 iron. Close the face, take a strong grip and release the hands. Hit the biggest hook you can. Once you realise what it takes to hit a hook then start toning it down.

But you really should get a lesson.

^i wouldn't advise closing the face, unless the issue its an open face (which it doesn't seem to be based on ball flight)
check your grip and stance, after that swing for a draw.
you don't want a slice swing with a hook setup, recipe for making your bad shots terrible imo...

All the best golf pro's are here...why pay for lessons...;)

but maybe if you posted a video, you might just find something obvious. its worth a shot!

Without a doubt the biggest thing you need to sort is your swing path, you can strengthen your grip, etc... but if you're still attacking the ball from an out to in path you're not going to solve the problem.

You should be looking at getting a neutral grip with an in to out swing

Next time at the range, aim left keep your target line straight ahead, but try hitting the ball out left. You should find there isn't as much spin on the ball, so its going left but straight left.
Once you see the spin being reduced, gradually move your aim to straight a head.

I was slicing like crazy for a while. Over compensating like you by aiming left (right handed).I rarely practiced the driver at the range, usually just irons. One evening a while ago I took it out to hita few. When I took it back on my backswing the head of the club hit the bucket of balls. Which was at least 9 inches to the right of where the club should be at that point. There was never a hope of having the club head square to the ball at impact. I adjusted my stance and began hitting straight drives. Felt all wrong for a while obviously. Now im starting to struggle with a hook!! Gotta love this game.
Somebody mentioned a drill like this for a slice on another thread I think. Placing as plastic bottle outside the path of the club or something like that. It's worth trying.
