Pool Betting

    Hi guys.

So a few weeks ago I was linked to a newish website that does pool betting for a number of sports. I played the football for a while and it was pretty fun, and then I tried out the horse racing. Now, I'm no expert on horse racing, I have the occasional punt but have never really caught the racing bug.

After trying out the racing on Poolpit however, I found myself winning regularly. It's nothing out of the ordinary, bet against other players over 7 or 8 races, you get points for finishing 1st-4th and the most points at the end takes the pot (as well as runners-up getting prizes).

Seen as I'm far from an expert on this, I put it down to beginners luck, but 4 weeks on and I'm still making decent profit every week off this. So I mentioned the site to a few friends who are big into their racing, but got an unexpected response.

Seems that Pool betting has some sort of stigma attached to it, as of the 5 friends I told, 2 of them went on a bit of a rant about how they stay away from pool betting (the 3 others tried it and loved it however).

So the reason for this story is I'd like to find out what the general consensus for Pool betting is amongst the racing community outside my friends. Is it really as bad as my 2 friends are making out, and if so is there no explanation but 'luck' for my months worth of winnings?

And if anyone needs an example of how it works, here is the site in question with today's Thurles races... http://bit.ly/Ui8Ybc
