Looking at buyin a new laptop for the normal stuff like office internet and media stuff.

Would also like to play some games on it like first person shooters etc if that'd be possible.

I cannot stretch the budget further before someone asks.

And it has to be a laptop not a desktop.

Love the look of the Alienware etc by Dell but as mentioned I cannot stretch the budget.

Is there a "budget" version he says laughing knowing full well you pay for what you get.

    Thanks

The PCS Enigma IV in the following configuration

    TEkzcL1.jpg

costs £506/€587, without operating system (incl. VAT, delivery to Ireland and the standard 3 yr warranty).

I can get my hands on office so thats not an extra cost but I would need it to have an Operating System on it in fairness so that'd put it well over the 600 mark I'd imagine.

    thanks anyway.

Had you recently bought Windows 8 for €15 (before the offer expired last month), you're be laughing now. ;)

Steam has come to Linux recently, plenty 3D shooters available.

Other than that, the best of luck with finding a laptop with a somewhat capable graphics card for 600 yoyos, the above is at good as it gets with your budget.

Of course, you can choose less RAM, a smaller HDD and a poor processor...

This will cost €604 incl. Windows... but it looks totally unbalanced to me. ;)

I've seen this one on my search for a laptop - i7, 64gb ssd and GT555 Graphics for 500 pounds sterling.
Sounds like a bit of an unusual configuration but it's not that expensive.
I don't know anything about gaming requirements though and not sure how good that graphics card is.

It does indeed. The 64 GB SSD is a mSATA drive and this model usually comes with a 750 GB HDD, where the mSATA SSD serves as "express cache", but if converted to a basic disc it can be used to install the OS. This is probably a refurb.

Not a all, great price for a Core i7 quad (although Sandy Bridge) and the GT 555M is not the worst GPU, though no match for a Kepler-based GT650M

i7 is overkill for gaming, shave money on an i5 and use the loose change on another component.

sounds like a work laptop geared to crunch things like CAD. odd config altogether though, something just designed for strange speed.

This looks ok although slightly over the 600euro (only slightly)

OK? The GT630M is anything but OK for "3D shooters". ;)

If you can get a GT 650M for your budget, the choice is an easy one. ;)

Not really, 4 GB RAM isn't nearly enough for complex design software, the Lenovo Y580 was more like a multimedia allrounder (bluray drive), a jack of all trades and master of none (no HDMI) if you will. Still a good price but somewhat odd (what happened to the HDD?)

What the OP gaines in some they loose in others. Yes the 650 is better but they may not need that power for what they want.

A google search for 'pc specialist discount' can get you £15 off.
I've just tried this one - G4DPC - and it worked.
Tis not a huge amount but it almost cancels out delivery costs - or 4 gigs more of ram!

So yeah I decided to get the old laptop i had lyin about formatted, ram upgraded and new battery. Will just use it for retro games instead I reckon. I'll save in the meantime. Will give me time to see what the new Playstation and xbox look like as well.
Thanks for the help/comments though lads!!
