Wexford Athletics have made a decision to charge a 5 euro entry fee to their county road races. This has been free up until now. There is a bit of a backlash to it from athletes on the county. What do people think.

Par for course in Wicklow, same for the XC.
€5 is fine for me, it's nominal really any higher and it could be viewed as profiteering.

I agree, a fiver is surely not a major issue especially in light of the many other poorly organised & far pricier races.

There are costs to putting on these races, so why not cover them with an entry fee? Clubs can always pay the entry for their athletes.

Presumably it's not a race with loads of pointless extras to pay for? I'd expect to be paying a fee for all races, although a minimal fiver for this doesn't sound like any problem.

County, Regional and National races are now paid for by my club though in a lot of cases so not an issue for me.

Good point, annual reg fees for Bray are acceptable imo.
Could easily add €20-€30 on top of that and cover county championships, but I prefer the lower reg and pay as you race.

€5 seems reasonable to me - any more and would be a different story.

5e seems reasonable, not like looking for 15e or something

I'd see 5 euro for a road race as being acceptable. I've been at county cross-country races where there's been a 2 euro fee, and I think that's great value.

At least you have a county road race championship at which you can pay to enter.

My county doesn't. We have one cross country race in which everybody runs together. Juniors, seniors, masters, men and women.

An indoor and outdoor mondo track in the county too but no county track & field championships either.
