Octavia 1.6 or passat 2.0 tdi?

Hi guys, i am new to the forum. i am trying to buy a car, but confused as i have two option. one Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI elegance with 80 mile, Second VW Passat 2.0 TDI Highline with 82 miles. both are same 2010. both are English plates cars. Am really confused which one should i go for as the money id exactly the same. Also i have heard bad stories about 2.0 tdi passat engines, which makes me more nervous. Please help!!!

Passat would be comparable to a Skoda Superb

Octavia comparable to a VW Jetta/Golf.

The 2.0 TDi in the 2010 Passat is the CR unit which doesn't suffer from the known issues in the older 2.0 TDi PD unit. As pointed out the Octavia is from the class below the Passat and is more a rival to the Golf.

The one thing I hate about the UK spec Highline Passat is that it is really is not all that high spec. It is based on the SE but has upgraded alloy wheels, multi-function steering and cheap looking after market fake leather seats that don't stand the test of time that well. The Irish spec Passat Highline is way nicer imo.

what engine in the Passat? 110bhp. 140bhp or the 170bhp unit?

The UK Passat gives lie to the notion that all UK cars are better specced, the Irish Highline has a far better spec.

It's 140bhp passat and 105 bhp Octavia which is 1.6 tdi

I use to have 1.9 passat comfort line, no I havn't driven both car yet !!

I agree with you in the English specs are not really great as compared I irish ones.

Octavia has high specs hands free and all where as passat is same with bit extra as leather seats and its blue motion too. Any recommendations which one shud I go for ??? Again both are 2010 and r English plates

I think a people have given their views but ultimately it is you who will have to go test drive both of them and then decide which one you want. Nobody here really can make that decision for you.
