    Hi all,

Just looking for some information, but I think I will need to go to the garda station to get this all sorted.

I have been sent on a project abroad with work and have been out of the country for ~4months. During this time my car has been parked in the garden and off the road. The tax disk expired in November 2012 and the NCT is also expired. I plan to do the NCT this weekend maybe, but my question is about the tax.

Is there any way I can show that my car has ben off the road the past 4 months so I do not have to pay the tax for this time? I'm sure my work will provide me with official records showing that I left the country, worked abroad etc. and all that.

Is this possible? Cheers for any help.

All you need to do is fill RF100a form. Indicate on this form that car was not used in public place during the time you were away, sign under it and get garda witnessing your signature.
Then you can go to motortax and pay tax from 1st February (or 1st March if you wait until March to do that).

In relation to NCT, legally you are not allowed to drive your car with expired NCT (and that includes journey to NCT centre). So by law you should have your car tower to NCT centre on a towing truck.

In reality, there is very very very little chance you might get into any trouble by driving it to NCT centre.

Fast and clear response! Just went out to check the NCT there. It turns out it expires March 2013. Happy days!

Will sort the tax out shortly though. Cheers!
