Structural jobs in the US

    Hey folks!

Just out of curiosity is it even remotely possible to get over to the US to work as a structural engineer these days? Anyone over there? I'd imagine their offshore/oil/gas industry would be busy enough, but buildings?

Visa conditions seem pretty strict so I'm guessing you would need an offer first but I'm pondering giving it a shot in about a years time. By that stage I'll have a B.E an MSc and a couple of years experience but I won't have a PE or any of the US qualifications (namely the FE which I'm told aren't that important for job applications anyway and I'd be grand doing the exam).

Any tips? Suggestions? Go for Canada and make a run for the border? Give up?

I think Canada is a lot more straightforward. You would also then have more than a week's annual leave!

Ah yeah but my girlfriend is a septic tank so I'm looking into the US. London is another option but it looks like she would have the same visa issues there that I would have in the US.

Yes it is very hard for US citizens to work in the UK. At least it is for graduates.

Septic Tank means Yank I assume, she's American. Didn't occur to me outright either.
