Aer Lingus "manage my booking" is rubbish

I have just finished tearing my hair out trying to get what I want via the Aer Lingus "Manage my booking" facility.

While booking a flight, I took up AL's offer of a "Plus" booking which enables you to check in a bag and reserve a seat for 20 Euro per passenger. Great.

However, I realised later that I had not availed of this "plus" offer for the return flight, so I went into "manage my booking" in order to upgrade the return journey to "Plus" status, reserve seats, check in bags and reserve a meal.

Oh dear. In "manage my booking" you have to do each of these operations seperately from scratch. I went in to add check-in bags. I input my flight code, airports and email. I then did the bag check-in reservation and then input my address and card details. Done. I was then invited to return to "manage my booking" and what then? To make any further changes, I would have had to start the whole rigmarole each time from square one - input booking details, make changes and input address and card details all over again.

This is not good enough. A "manage my booking" facility should enable you to do several changes in one transaction.

A big boo to Aer Lingus for this.

Are you sure you're not availing of those extras individually in which case they'll cost you more than the €20 plus fare. Is it even known if the plus fare can be added after the fact? I don't think it is.

Well you did make the mistake initially in booking the wrong flight, what opinions do you want?

I guess because each of the add ons is broken down into individual options so customers can buy just one (i.e. extra bag, reserve a seat) that the system can only handle them that way.

You must remember that despite a spangly web front end, Aer Lingus' reservation system is knocking at least 40 years old, with bits being tacked on left, right and centre. Be surprised it does as well as it does..

Yes to all those comments, but would it really be beyond the wit of Aer Lingus to design "manage my booking" so that you could do a number of changes in one transaction, without having to log in each time and give flight, card, address etc details for each component?

Isn't your gripe kinda like showing up to a hotel and complaining that you didn't get the advance booking rate?
