Rebate support on long shelves

Hi guys, got an idea at the moment for a wraparound shelf that will follow the wall around the living room about 300mm below the ceiling. Wood I'm going to use is Sapele so think I should be good for rigidity straight off.

I'd like if possible to keep supports to a minimum so am thinking along the lines of a rebated piece of stock affixed to the wall with the fixings in the rebate and thereby hidden by the shelf itself which will slot into the rebate.

For additional strength I might drill screws down through the top part of the rebated stock which overhangs the shelf into the shelf.

I've attached a pic to give some idea what I'm thinking of. The wood dimensions are actual dimensions available from my local timber supplier and what I think might be most suitable for the shelf at least. For the rebate support I'd be a bit happier if I could get something slightly longer (i.e. 90mm instead of 70).

Anyway couldn't figure a way of including the dimensions of the rebate itself so I'd be thinking approx 25mm of stock above and below the shelf and the inset itself going back 25mm leaving 20mm through which I'm put anchor fixings into brick walls.

Bit concerned that this might not be sufficient to take the combined weight of the shelf plus books though so any and all thoughts really appreciated. Suggestions for alternative supports welcome too.

    Thanks!
