    Favourite match of all time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,600 ✭✭✭✭CMpunked

    Howyiz.

Ok i'll start with the default questions and then think about the above ones because they are quite thought provoking questions:

What got you into Pro Wrestling in the first place?
I remember my step brother watching it. Unfortunately I was one of those kids who came from divorced parents and as a result when I was about 9 I had to start visiting my dads on a Sunday for a few hours. In my own house I never had sky, never lived in the town, wasn't allowed drink coke or eat blue m&ms so naturally, in my dads all that changed! My step brother is about 2 or 3 years older than me and indirectly got me into a lot of stuff that I was into at that age.

What keeps you interested in it?
Its sad to admit this, but wrestling was always my thing. I kinda liked football growing up but from having problems engaging with other kids (as a result of the aforementioned divorce) and generally not being the most sporty; I'd never get picked for football or stuff like that. So I clung to wrestling because in school no one knew more about it than me. When the other kids started watching they kept asking me all the questions because they knew I knew. Remember the rumor that Chyna was once a man? I like to think I started that. :o
Either way, Its always been my thing and i've worn it as a badge of honour through the years. The way I see it, if someone can admit to watching wrestling publicly then they are fcuking a-ok in my book.

TL:DR Always been my thing, still is my thing.

How did you come across the PW forum on Boards?
I was a member of the IWW forum and was a massive fan of irish wrestling back in the 'golden age' of around 2005 and was told to join up on the forum. Anyone who remembers that forum will recall it being hit nearly daily with arab online militants. Some day someone posted a link to boards and I migrated in 2008 and never went back.

What keeps you coming back to the forum?
I remember there being other sites and forums being recommended back then and I signed up to them all. After a few months I realised that boards had something none of the others had; Irish wrestling news and god dam respect. Newbie posters were pushed down whenever they would try and comment, flame wars were ongoing etc. Thankfully this place has remained free from all that BS since.

What other big interest do you have outside of Pro Wrestling?
Off the top of my head I play bass. Have done for about 11 years now or so. I like a lot of bands that are well known but aren't regarded as great bands. Bands like blink182 and Limp Bizkit are right up there at the top of those lists.

Other things would be movies. I tried fruitlessly to get into college courses for so many years to do media, tv and film, creative media just so I could possibly attempt to do something in that area of work. I watched as friends would get places and I would be left out year after year.
Nothing came to pass so I'm onto my next plan of getting a good job and going to make short movies on the side and just do it that way. As long as I have an income and i'm doing that I wont mind.

What wrestler/story/moment do you feel had the greatest impact on you as a fan?
Wrestler: Chris Jericho. I loved EVERYTHING about him, his attitude, his promos, his background in ECW (i loved ECW!) he was just the bees knees.

Story: Probably the invasion. Again, I loved it. I was entirely immersed in the whole idea that WWF would be put out of business by the invasion.
I was completely convinced and even though it gets a bad rap these days,
seeing vince appearing on nitro and folding that company showed that it could have happened and I believed it wholeheartedly.

Moment was probably Austin returning after being mowed down and beating the living shít out of rikishi. I thought it was the best thing ever hearing the music and him driving to the ring in the pickup. It was magical.

Where did your username come from?
I was originally comic book guy (i think that was my iww username)
then changed to CBG. CMpunked came after i joined Xbox Live in 2009 and chose it as my username.
I liked the idea of those playing to see I was a wrestling fan.
CM are my initials, I'm straight edge (before it was cool.) and very much into punk. It all makes sense, really. :pac:

    Tough, tough question.
It would probably be one of the two first one night stands. Off the top of my head, of course.
Maybe I'd have a different answer if i really thought about it, but those sprung to mind first.
    lockie1983 wrote: »

Well its simple. We kill the batman.
No, undertaker, i mean undertaker. Taker faces punk at mania and have punk win, beating the streak. You want a superstar who if he done it as a heel could be hated from here to eternity and thats how I would have him playing out the rest of the year.
On the other end of that i would have him as the head of the 'heyman guy' group with the shield and lesnar. theyre path of destruction could last the year and then next years mania have lesnar v punk.

What debut/run has disappointed the most after hearing so much about them or seeing promos?
Like I said when asking the others this question, Preferably not one of the WCW/ECW guys in the Invasion since they were pretty much fubar in comparison to what they were in their previous companies.

What WWE star do you think doesn't deserve the push they're getting and who do you think has a poor gimmick?

Who would you push and how would you push them?

Who that has left WWE would you a)like to see back and b)think will be back

Who from another promotion that you're aware of would you like to see in WWE?

    Who's your favourite muppet?

Gimmick you hated at first but it really grew on you?

Best repackaging of a WWE Superstar? Outside the obvious ones like Austin and The Rock.

If vince Mc called you to be a superstar what would your gimmick be and what would your intro music be, and who would you feud against first?

    What is your favourite finisher?

Gimmick would be an internet mark, someone who santino started out as being pulled out of the crowd kinda shpeal.
Intro music would be something new metal-y. Like bizkit, but not cliched.
First feud would be probably be the miz seeing as he has that whole 'real world' background and my gimmick is supposed to be 'one of the fans' so i could criticise his background. My finisher would be a t bone suplex, cos its awesome.
    jaykhunter wrote: »

Name 3 TV shows everyone should watch and why?

When did you become Straight Edge?

    Comic book guy or Ralph.
If not, definitely that guy who freaks out loads in certain situations.

They need more of him these days.

    Tv shows everyone should watch?

I've never watched the Wire, but i'm sure everyone who does would like everyone else to.

    My 3 are:
    Breaking bad.
Lost. Everyone should give it a go from start to finish. Its a great ride.
Bob's Burgers. There literally has never been anything like it on telly before. So off beat but not in an overly crude way like family guy or south park are.

I became straight edge when I got drunk this one time and realised I started becoming a different person, a person who i didnt like and decided i would never bring that out again. Actually, it was quite like my dad.. Wow, this is turning into therapy..
But as I say, i've been straight edge for a lot longer than I even knew it was a thing.
Even though i'm somewhat against drugs, I find it sickening to think how much of a hold drink culture has on this country and buying into the trend literally kills thousands a year, yet if someone has a small amount of drugs on them can be committed of a crime.
    gerrybbadd wrote: »

Greatest finisher has to be the stunner. That gets hit and that was it, over!
This fire burns was always a favorite of mine as a song and then when punk used it i loved it even more. But favorite entrance theme purely for it being a theme has to be edges metalingus. It was excellent.
Whether he was a heel or a face it really worked for him.
Fav and least fav spot in wrestling

    Fav bad wrestler

Curry, taco or garlic cheese chips?

Fave spot is the spear off the ladder from the tlc match at mania 17.
Least fave, where it isnt a spot as such, is the set up for the 619. My face skews with cringeyness whenever it happens.

Fave bad wrestler.. Hmmm.. Probably be Val Venis.

    Also, Taco Chips FTW!
    Earliest wrestling memory?

My brother watching a tape of the raw from when Kane debuted and went after taker and he wasnt having any of it. I remember watching thinking wtf is this? But in a good way.
I was hooked from there on in.
    Favourite match of all time?

Too hard of a question. It really is.

Top 5. (in no specific order)

Taker and HHH at wm 17
Rock v austin at the same mania
The Tag Table match at royal rumble 2000
Mike awesome vs Kid kash at ECW living dangerously 2000
Sabu vs. Rob Van Dam Hardcore Heaven 1996

Your seem to be a fan of Bob's Burgers have you ever seen a show called Home Movies?
It used to be on Cartoon network a good few years ago. The guy who voices Bob was in it as Coach McGuirk.

Probably Drew or Wade. After seeing them on TWC and hearing how well they were doing left, right and centre only to turn up at the E and be stuck on the back foot. Wade hasnt been doing too bad, but I really feel for a guy like drew who was having stellar matches before he got the call up.
What WWE star do you think doesn't deserve the push they're getting and who do you think has a poor gimmick?

Alberto. Id rather see Orton with the belt, thats how much I dont care.
Poor Gimmick goes to Alex Riley, I know he never had a 'gimmick', but he should have had his character expanded a bit after his breakup with miz.
Who would you push and how would you push them?

I think wwe is in a pretty good place at the moment with consistency of whos on television that who is there has been there for a while and has been pushed in one form or another. So i'm not sure if i could answer that.
Who that has left WWE would you a)like to see back and b)think will be back

I'd really like Bully Ray to be back in the E. He has reinvented himself something phenomenal and all credit to him. But i'd like to see them calf muscles on Raw.
Who from another promotion that you're aware of would you like to see in WWE?

Sting. Just because he never has been and you know he isnt going to say no to a massive pay day at some stage.
    Who's your favourite muppet?

Oh sweet jesus, thats a tough one. Probably have to say Ricky Gervais. He's a muppet, right?
Gimmick you hated at first but it really grew on you?

Zigglers. "Hi, I'm Dolph Ziggler." Wait.. what? Dolph? Harharhar. Suddenly I couldnt wait for him to pop up in some segment to introduce himself.
Best repackaging of a WWE Superstar? Outside the obvious ones like Austin and The Rock.

I like what they have done with Kane. I know he gets a lot of flack, but they have managed to turn him from some random fire monster into someone who has gotten over very well as a face.
    Charisteas wrote: »
    Charisteas' very random 20 questions:

    1. Which wrestlers have you met in person and any interesting stories to tell?

Few off the top of my head:
I stayed outside Easons in o'connell street overnight on a friday to be first in the queue to meet mick foley the next afternoon. Easons were so good to us all day and allowed us to take up loads of room in the book aisles and eat burger king while waiting, that sort of thing. They even gave us a free meal afterwards in the restaurant beside tower records because they didnt want us fainting at all during the rest of the day.
A security gaurd also took what appeared to be a stroke or a heart attack as foley was being brought out of the lift. Such a weird moment.
I do fondly remember somone commenting "There's a ambulance outside, are they worried what mick is going to do?" Clearly this guy had no idea what had just happened.

Met Balls Mahoney and he couldnt have been cooler to us older guys. But he constantly had kids going up to him with wwe magazines (because y'know, whenever kids go to anything wrestling they must bring something wwe with them) asking him to sign them and that, he at one point shouted at a small kid "NO! I'M NOT SIGNING A PICTURE OF THE FCUKING UNDERTAKER! JESUS!" and stormed away from the signing session. He came out then to apologise to the kid and his ma but the mother said he done right! That he was pestering all of them!

I met Sabu in a hotel lobby after a show once. I hung around waiting to see him as he hadn't done any meet and greets because they said he had food poisoning. Which I didnt mind about, I'm not one of these that go to shows and demand that every wrestler be doing that sort of stuff.
Anyway, he comes down and I, very politely ask him to sign my jersey and get a photo, to which he had no problem at all and asked me did I enjoy the show as he was signing it. After the picture was taken he handed me back my jersey and leant in, whispered in my ear these words; "Hey man, know anyone or anywhere I could get some weed around here?"
I was shocked and somewhat in awe of being asked where to get drugs from an old ECW legend, it was like I had surpassed just being a fan and me and him had, for a few moments, a bond.

Another quick one is I met colt cabanna and nigel mcguiness years and years ago and they were honestly the most friendliest guys ever, they played with kids in the hallway of the hotel, shared jokes with random guys who were in the lobby while other matches were on, really cool stuff like that.
At the same show I met Christopher Daniels and well, to say he was the polar opposite wouldnt be more true.
I liked and still do like him as a wrestler, but he seemed to be just in a mood. I really wanted a signature but didnt have enough to afford a 4x3 and asked him to do something that probably wasnt a great idea and to sign my arm.
"Your arm?" he asked as he expected me to be joking. I laughed and said yeah. He stood up from the table and reached out to take my arm and I tried to flatter him and negate the energy which didnt seem good.
"Hey, I just have to congratulate you on all your success over the last few years (TNA had just started making waves at that point), must be good clearly living the dream?"
His response was "Yeah.. clearly" as he drops my arm, returning it to beside my torso as he looks to the end of the line behind me. I said thanks and bye but he just murmured something.
    2. Favourite bands? (Besides Limp Bizkit of course).

From having a quick goo at my phone:
Acdc, Biffy Clyro, blink182, bon jovi, boxcar racer, Daft Punk, David Crowder band, Eminem, Fall out boy, flogging molly, foos, fort minor, green day, GNR, Jay-z, Johnny cash, Kanye west (I know, i know. But he is the voice of a generation..) Katy perry, Killswitch engage, Linkin Park, The lonely Island, Metallica, Muse, New found glory, Offspring, Paramore, Queens of the stone age, RHCP, The Refused, Rise against, Slipknot, sugacult, taking back sunday, thin lizzy, anything travis barker does, 30 seconds to mars.

Thats a good idea of what/who.
    3. How many countries have you been to?

    Not many. :(
Here, England, Wales, Spain (and some territories such as majorca), France, Belguim, The Netherlands and Germany.
    4. Which country has the sexiest women?

    Probably Canadians.
    5. How many wrestling shows have you been to?

Including small Indy shows i'd say 50ish.
    6. nWo or DX?

Which DX, now? Or even, what incarnation of NWO? ;)
    7. Favourite xmas song?

Dont let the bells end by the darkness.
    8. Favourite place to go in Dublin?

Everywhere. I fcuking love the city.
    9. Home and Away or Neighbours?

Neither. Can't stand either of them.
    10. Any piercings and/or tattoos? Or future plans in this regard?

None yet. I do plan on getting some, though. I've been trying to get my health in order before I do because I want to have the arm density to get one and not have it go out of shape if I lose flab and gain muscle there.
But what I do want is this:
    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQEmKHf2Y8RB2-BIdXjr7MnAQpDSTkKBB3M7DpMbplLEA7TIzJvRQ
I also do plan on getting the phrase "To infinity and Beyond" somewhere. I know it sounds cheesy and that, but its always been a phrase that means something to me.
    11. Do you lift weights or do any sports?

I've only started so I'm not sure what i'm doing, yet to be honest. :/
I've looked into playing some sort of sport and i've been asked to try out for a local american football team so that should be interesting. :pac:
    12. Ever had wrestling training? (I already know the answer to this!)

Yes! It was fun, wasnt it? :D
If all goes well I could be getting a job in south dublin and I might be able to afford making it a regular thing. But, we'll see either way.
    13. Favourite actor?

Recently probably Joseph Gordan Levitt, but maybe he's just a flavour of the month.
    14. Favourite actress?

    Amy adams. Mmmmm.
    15. Hottest Diva/Knockout ever?

    Velvet sky!
    16. What soccer team do you support?

    Eh.. The.. cowboys.. united.. club?
    17. Best day of your life?

I dont think i've had it yet.
    18. Favourite ever sitcom/comedy?

Probably Friends. Its stood the test of time anyway.
    19. You can invite one wrestling personality for dinner, who do you choose and why?

The Rock. I think he would be a very respectful and fun dinner guest.
    20. Top 5 entrance themes?

    Zigglers old music,
    HHH's My time,
    Miz's awesome theme,
    Jerichos theme,
    Edges metalingus.

    Coke or Pepsi

    Pepsi max always.
    7up or sprite

    Either, preferably 7 up free.

Usually always go for the diet/free stuff, not sure why, but I pretty much always have.

Yes, love it. But since getting rid of netflix i havent really watched it. I had planned to go into hmv and see if i could get it on dvd..
Do you think WWE is on an upward rise or downward slope in terms of storys and talent?

No doubt that its on the up. I'm loving it at the moment more so than I have in the last few years.

Heres an idea i've always had; when wwe/f was in its prime they should have had wwe territories. Like 'wwe uk' 'wwe uk europe' basically have developmentals for each area with their own weekly shows and events. I always maintained it could be a really nice idea to show how wwe is a global brand and not just an american thing. Obviously whoever is on the main shows as in raw and smackdown wouldnt be in these areas but could appear back every now and again.

Although the newer one where fishouder gets the Jaws shark from the deepening was pretty deadly. Really enjoyed that one.

I'll come back to this one. Its very intriguing.

Not a lot of interesting stuff to be honest. Heres a few of them anyway:

    IGN.
    Adultswim.
    Epic Meal Time.
    Epic news daily.
    Schmoyoho.
    Rooster teeth.
    PianoChatImprov.
    Klaatu42.
    Pixar
    Funny or die.
    Kyle
    T3
    How it should have ended.
    KassemG
    hardy Bucks
    angry video game nerd.
    Mashable.
    The lonely island
    Twisted netherland.
What did you say to Sabu when he asked you for weed?!

    "No man, sorry"
Although, I was trying very hard to remember if i knew anyone in the area who would know so i could hook him up. My poor head was smushed trying to get people to tell me. Any I asked knew I dont do drugs and they always say "You're dead right for not getting into it!" so they refused to tell me because they thought it was just for me!
Who do you look up to most in the world (a) From people in your everyday life (b) From people you've never met?

    (A) My girlfriend/fiance is a massive inspiration to me daily. She doesnt think she done much but my idea of whats right, good and true has changed entirely because of her.

    (B) Anyone who has stood up and made a good difference whether in the small term and personal to them (like someone who has lost loads of weight or something) or public people who have aimed for a goal no matter how high. Those like Steve Jobs and John Lassater, the mastermind behind Pixar studios (If you dont know his story, I implore you to look it up. He has such an interesting tale, from working as an animator for disney and suggesting making the brave little toaster as a fully computer generated movie which got him fired and not backing down on his vision and seeing it through with pixar, its fantastic!)
What was the last thing to make you really laugh out loud?

I went to see Jason Byrne a few weeks ago and that was, surprisingly, very funny.
However, more recently when the whole meteor hit russia, I seen on facebook someone posted "Well.. I see optimus prime has arrived" I laughed way too hard at that.

If you were put into a tag team in the WWE who would you choose as your partner and what would your gimmick be?

Cena or HHH. We would never lose! :pac:
If you could attend any moment in history thanks to your newly invented time machine what would it be?

I'd like to go back to the 50s/60s. I love seeing old pics and videos of that time. Everyone looks so cool!
Other than that, i'd go back to see jesus. I'm a bit of a fan.

What wrestlers would you wait overnight to get an autograph/picture?

Are there any storylines that WWE could've done so much more with (besides the inVasion)?

Playing any videogames at the moment? What are you looking forward to playing this year?

Would you rather take a bump from Charisteas or Jay Hunter? :D
