Quick query, I am going buying the new Nike VRS Covert 3 wood which has changeable lofts (13-17 degree).

Can you alter the loft of a club during a round? Is there rules that say you can?

No - you are not alowed to change the playing characteristics of the club during a round.

    Why would you ?

This is the crazy stuff I feared when this stuff came on the market.

There are 14 clubs in a golf bag - so if you have it at mid point - 15 - you think you need to change by 2 degrees for certain shots - learn how to play a punch or deloft or add loft.

Don't worry I wont be changing the loft. I was just wondering because the club can do it are you allowed. For example, if the wind picked up you could lower the loft.

Well there is a rule 4-2a that says you can't! And it's not very far into the rulebook.;)

    Playing Characteristics Changed (Rule 4-2a)
    This Rule states that:
During a stipulated round, the playing characteristics of a club must not
be purposely changed by adjustment or by any other means.
The purpose of this Rule is to prevent the player from purposely
modifying his club during a round – for example to a flatter lie, a greater
loft, an alternative weight distribution or changing the head or shaft. This is
regardless of whether the club has been designed to be adjustable.

Ian - if you can't do 2 out of 3 of them - pack it in boy - adding and delofting is not exactly like findings The Higgs boson.

You can't be watched if you are being ignored!

If too many are ignored there will be no one left on the forum?

This thread is a bit of a stray cat now - no, it is just gone cat.

So to sum up - we think the idea of changing loft during round is a bit cat.

    So to tail off -
I'm not trying to be catty about this lofty issue. But -
Golf is gone to the dogs.

    Sorry (Meow Woof).

The OP was asking about the rules of golf. I think the bit in bold above is very condescending and not at all helpful.

Every breath you take ..... I'll be watching you
I thought drink was your poison but given your paranoia maybe it's the wacky backy

Did you really write that sh*te?

I have a full set of clubs evenly distributed in loft to give me roughly 10 yard intervals between clubs. Why would I be arsed adding loft and delofting (with one exception - the high bunker shot)

Breaking 80 must have gone to your head :(

:confused:It wouldn't be Valintine's day without a bit of Moet.

No - on new drugs and feel a bit odd - felt like eating a bird in the garden and pissing in the house there. Then I asked her for no reason, would she get a ball of wool, I'll chase it around the house for a bit of fun.

This no golf, has me going places in the brain that no man should -

sorry - will stay clear of boards for a while.

The cat knows , he has made a mistake.
He knows he needs a break
hidden from all , hides in the loft
errors of his way, way too soft

    A new life , a new game.
    A new Boards name.
    Deloft, don't punch
    10 yrd , a 4 degree hunch

    8 lives now up
    take another Torres sup
    Too big in the head
Time for my last life bed.

Practical question, would it not just be easier to adjust your stance/swing/grip/whatever to compensate for the wind rather than adjusting the loft on the club?

Or am I missing something

Jaysus - Ian. Id never fall out with someone on here. It is not real life.
About give and take - i did not even bring up cat thing. Only a Joke by someone.

A couple of people have said delofting is normal. I've delofted a 3i and added loft to a SW .
Under a tree or over. Loads of other reasons. Not about "a big head".

Im off the course a good while and bored. So just messing. I know your new here. All part of the course.

    Best of luck.

For sure not meant to be nasty. Everybody kiss and make up! Start over fresh.

Look it was not to be nasty - it was just that I felt like a cat in a bag with the drugs I'm on.
