Was half listening to RTE's, 5-7 live news program while driving in the company of a person who works outside Ag. Anyway the farm news slot came on around 6.15 and there were reports from protests at winter milk processors factories.

First farmer interviewed comes on and says that the average price of milk through the year is 33c/l and it currently costing all farmers 40c/l to produce. (Fine, I know he aint comparing apples with apples but I will leave him off with it as he wants a bit of sensationalism)

Next farmer comes on and again says that the price of milk is 33c/l and all the farmers here need is another 4c a ltr to make a few quid

Well done lads you just managed to get anyone with half a brain to switch off

Is this the same sector that was declaring a net profit of €3000/ ha on the profit monitor thread.
The interviews......yea You get that a lot at protests but you can't stop ordinary farmers doing interviews

rancher i was at the drogheda protest, we got a text on friday, then on monday we got a text 5 minutes after we got a text of a 1 cent milk price increase.... some people got no text... i wasnt sure if it was on or not as no phone calls where made , rang a fellow liquid milk farmer- also an ifa member- he knew nothing about it:confused::confused: seriously what dowe pay our subs for there either going to be a "good" protest or it wasnt worth our while, i went and did my bit, just annoyed that the effort wasnt put in by the orgaisisation itself and tbh the time to protest was last friday before the price was set

If it was down on his membership profile that he was in liquid milk, he should get a text automatically,it's all computerised now..cutting costs,
He should check the local office

But sure they would have still only given the 1cent only difference would be the IFA boys would claim credit for it.

'Twas supposed to have been done, when I joined they weren't asking your age or enterprise so I was phoned in the last year and it was updated. They want to have those texts more targetted

I think it was the ifa national liquid milk co mitt that organised it
They should forget about it if that was the best they can do
Do it right or dont bother
We badly need up to 40 c for liquid milk in Winter
Glanbia were offering 1.5 c/lt what happened
So much for backing the Vote

Yep big difference between your grazing block profit and whole farm profit.

In regards to this whole protest, my taking on it is the Irish public have two choices:

1)pay more for fresh milk, assuming that the processors start charging more for it, or

    2) Face the fact that us liquid milk suppliers will just get fedup producing for cost, all get out, and leave the consumer with only being able to buy imported milk during the winter.

I don't really see myself continuing in liquid milk longterm, Not worth the hassle/hardship etc, I'd take my changes with a seasonal herd, and all the exposure of world markets/price fluctuations.

im a bit lost here. talking to my mate who has a liquid milk contract he was saying he is getting close to 50c a ltr for the 90 days of the liquid milk season, and it reverted back to the seasonal price last week of around 33c a ltr. Would the above be correct?

    mustnt be glanbia anyway....

awfull timiing for any protest , 4 hrs round trip for me anyway, so thanks but no thanks..

the tie up with manufacturing price is not gonna serve liquid cos gii(L) is under no obligation to look after liquid supps.. and a price rise is one that goes across the whole pool so its never gonna happen..

as for trhe plc consumer is dragging along they say:rolleyes: so i cant see much ..

i with tim when he says the love affair with liquid is over( and on valentines and all:D)...
in my disc group sPring lads with high solids milk plus late lact bonus and an early calving bonus are coming out with a price comparable to most liquid lads at that time of year.. and they get a break at christmas..

when u`ve got breeding and calving and the rearing of much greater calf no.s this time of year your really busy as hell and for very little probably..

Winter milk in Glanbia is a contract to supply milk for the months Oct-Jan and half of Feb. We are paid a bonus of 9c/litre and price is based on solids. I have no idea how liquid milk is paid for save to say I've asked many times but never been told. They are very slow to divulge how they are paid and are programmed to complain constantly about price, amount of work and lifestyle etc.
Maybe someone of the reasonable suppliers on boards can enlighten us:confused:
