i was thinking about this - matchplay seems the most obvious if you are going to be playing over a few rounds but if its on one day only then stableford may be the handiest. Hard argue with scoring on the day.

Never involved in anything like that Dak but my suggestion would be to introduce a tiered competition structure to keep the enthusiasm/interest levels for it within the society. Have a Cup and a Shield.

So, it'd be an open draw in the first round, the winners go into the Cup and the losers into the Shield!

This way, at least everyone gets 2 matches.

You are also left with 2 winners and 2 runners up
All in keeping with a society giving away plenty of prizes.

I'd go for match-play for a difference but I don't think it really matters.

    Simple and to the point..

    Rules

o Players play with handicap as of date of draw xx May 20xx
o All matches to take place on xxxxxxx Course.
o All matches to be completed by dates stated. No exceptions
o In Match play the game is played by holes
o The participants have been drawn at random and a playing schedule shall be set up between each player at the earliest convenience with each match being played on or before the closing date for each round as listed on the Society Website with no exceptions.
o The Player whose name appears first in the table shall be considered the "Challenger". It is the Challenger's responsibility to liaise with his opponent in order to make the necessary arrangements to fix a date and a venue for the match to be played.
o Once the Challenger has made 3 (three) attempts to fix a location, date and tee time and the opponent has been unable to meet any of these requests and provided sufficient proof is provided to the Committee then the Challenger by default will go through to the next round..
o The Player with the higher handicap shall receive 100% of the difference of the lower handicapped player using the playing handicap.
o Matches to be played from moveable white markers
o When match has been played it is the responsibility of the winner to inform the committee of the result.
o All committee decisions are final.

I run the local society matchplay.. think this covers most queries..
