Windows 8 - Akamai NetSession Interface - Do I need this?

Just got a prompt from Windows 8 to turn off some startup items. I turned off Dropbox, Adobe Reader and a few others - the computer (not this one) is only used for image editing. Akamai was one of those startup items that I turned off. But, could I uninstall it? No idea how it got there. Thanks. D.

Its basically a secure download manager used by a couple sites. It can be removed safely but you might be asked to run it again in the future when you go searching for drivers ad certain secured programs. I think I have it myself for some reason
