Stringing a ukulele left handed

So I'm hoping to learn ukulele. I'd prefer to buy a bundle with tuner, case etc. since to save money. Thing is I'm left-handed and I do the vast majority of things with my left hand so I can't see playing righty working for me. So far I haven't found any bundles for left-handed ukuleles.

I've heard that restringing a ukulele requires more than just restringing it and should only be done by a professional if you're new to the instrument. My question is if I were to take a uke to a general music shop would they be able to restring it or would I need to take it some sort of specialist since it's not the most common of instruments? How much would this cost? How long would it take? After it's restrung lefty if I were to change the strings at some point would it be okay to do it myself since it's been stung lefty already?

I restrung mine myself here and it's fine! now it's in noway any sort of high end instrument but i done it with no bother

i also contemplated in learning it upsidedown and just leaving it as it considering i'll probably never find a random lefty uke at a party or anywhere else

I always thought the strings on the uke were pretty similar gauge-wise. Looking at some of the standard tunings, the outside strings are close enough to each other, and the inside strings aren't tuned far from each other either.

In theory, you could just re-tune left-handed without swapping the strings around. Either that or just play the chords inverted, which is a lot easier to do.

    Jambo speaks wisdom!

just flip the righty one upside down and play right hand shaped chords WITHOUT any need to tinker around.

I know of several top end pro guitarists who did this.....

I restrung my wife's to be left handed. Just swapped the strings around, and also flipped the bridge saddle, as it's slanted. The saddle wasn't glued in or anything, so it was just a matter of turning it around. It's not a high end uke (Kala Makala Concert), but it seems to play fine. I suppose in theory, the nut should be done too, but I didn't bother, as the strings don't vary that much in gague.

The old spatial awareness issue didn't lend itself to inverting chords.;)
