I'd hate it. I'm quite a private person and I don't see the appeal.

i don't like attention so no i'd hate to be famous

I wouldn't mind it, but only as a side effect of being very good at something, and not as an end in itself. But in that regard I'd be perfectly happy, if not happier (it's hard to know) simply being very good at something.

No, only an egotistical halfwit would want to be.

If you ever hear the A lister like Kim kardashian and paris Hilton. They struggle to find genuine friends so they just have they're family.

But the famous in the America have a ton of weird stalker.

I think most people would prefer not to be famous.

Those who crave fame are are on an eternal ego trip.

Most of us don't give a toss about them, or fame.

Yeah, likewise. I'd like to be rich but no interest in being famous - in fact I often feel sorry for famous people. Can't go out for a pint/pizza in peace, lose their real friends for hangers-on, very stressful life putting on a facade of happiness/niceness 24/7 etc.

I reckon I would hate to be famous, not that I have any skills that would likely propel me into the spotlight anyway.

Although.....skill or talent doesn't seem to be a prerequisite any longer.
Get drunk and act promiscuously on TV and a legion of adoring fans will surely follow.

    I want to be infamous.

I already get people coming up to me saying "ooh you were in that band* weren't you". And as if that wasn't bad enough, I've worked in pretty much every nightclub in Waterford at one point, so if I get talking to people and they recognise me it's "you're the barman from such and such a place". I swear, I was working in McSorley's in Killarney for one night and some one recognised me.

I'd absolutely hate to be actually famous.

Would only be famous for reasons of low esteem.

No, that'd be infamous. Low self-esteem and who wants to go down the road of kurt cobain... driven to suicide, after which you are not so fondly remembered in rockumentaries as having been a total cretin

Careful now, keep declaring your lack of skills and talent like that and you'll have MTV on the phone in no time offering you a reality show!

Depends. Wouldn't like to be sex tape famous. Or the guy who fell off the cliff edge while trying to follow his faulty gps famous.

Anyone who wants recognition for what they do, fair enough.

Anyone who just wants "fame", is a needy bell-end, compensating for some failing along the line.

Getting it 24 hours a day 7 days a week I'd say is a nightmare. Famous like Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise or Beyonce were you can't move without minders, not being able to do anything without some kant trying to take your photo to stick in some rag magazine. I'd eventually crack up, so its a no for me.

Being classed as a Z Lister would just be embarrassing!

Look at George Clooney. Arguably the biggest tosser on earth. Nevermind the trim he gets, I don't want to be like that.

I look at the magazines. To me knowing that I a few quid in the bank is nothing like everyone knowing that you hold a few million. Going into Tesco and not have another person blink an eye but someone to say "Jesus, that's "*****" and he threw "whatever" in his basket. To go home and see my family and mates and the only complication I could consider was "I just asked for onions ffs", ya know?.....

I'd like to be famous in a random country like Azerbaijan. Go there when it suits and revel in the attention when it suits, then go anywhere else in the world and just be normal again.

I know a girl who was in a Korean reality show during a gap year, so she occasionally gets recognised by Koreans, which I think is kind of cool.

I don't like walking down shop street when it's crowded and I'm anonymous. I can't imagine walking down the red carpet while loads of people are screaming at me, fans wanting hugs, photo's and autographs and having to think of witting and interesting things to say to reporters Urgh. No thanks. I wouldn't mind the goodie bags though :pac:

    This :p

For anyone thats interested. Here is Russell Brand's take on being famous: (skip to 10:38)

Personally I think being famous is a load of bollocks. As brand says, yeah great for pulling women. But you'd get so annoyed after a while.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,293 ✭✭✭1ZRed

I don't think I'd mind too much as long as I got recognised for my talent in something as real recognition comes with the territory if you truly stand out enough, but I would never want to be massively famous like the likes of Rihanna or any of them.

I'd be perfectly content in the sidelines and enjoying the benefits of fame without losing my privacy and becoming too mainstream.

    Feck, I sound like a hipster :(

My great passions in life are singing and acting, so it would be disingenuous of me to say that I haven't dreamed of fame before, but that's more so because that's considered the pinnacle of those professions for most people. I would never want to be on a reality show or become famous for nothing. The fame I envisioned growing up always involved recognition for accomplishments, which - while egotistical and probably rooted somewhere deep in my own insecurities - is not fame for fame's sake. And as you get older, you realize that just being able to work as a professional actor or musician without the fame is rewarding enough. It's really just about doing what you love.

A few years ago I would have said I wouldn't have minded fame, but I've seen some ugly sides of it in recent years, and I think I'd get pretty creeped out by it. The things a handful of crazy fans will do to get attention is just bizarre, and the amount of projection and judgment you'd have to put up is ridiculous. And of course the invasion of privacy is terrible too. To feel like you couldn't go get some milk without ending up on the front page of some tabloid as, "METAOBLIVIA WITH NO MAKEUP IN SWEATS! Has she give up on life?" is just ugh.

There are varying levels of fame too.

It's funny, you can be on a show like Fair-City and be known to alot of Irish people. But in reality are only on an average wage - I heard alot of them are only on around 400euro a week. Don't get me wrong of course, not bad for just saying a few lines in front of a camera but none the less says alot about "fame" (At least on their level)

But the best one was the guys from Jackass. Was watching a documentary on youtube a few weeks ago. The pay from MTV was so terrible when they were doing the show. Obviously the lads are millionaires now from the movies and other projects. But it's insane to think back to when the show was airing that were only getting a few hundred bucks a week. Yet they were well known through-out the world.
