Do you ever feel like some of these people are phoning for a chat more than to buy a car?

"jesus that's a nice looking jeep, I wont be up in your part of the country for a couple of weeks, but if its still of sale then, I might swing by" (didn't ask anything about the Jeep)
One of the MANY MANY weird calls I had today:D

In these testing times some people just have lots of time on their hands to browse DD. One of the down sides of selling stuff.

Yeah, its part of the fun of selling. Chalk it up and don't waste time talking to them once you figure you have a waffler. Putting the line 'don't call unless you are serious' marks sellers as cranks and I won't view a car even if I want it, if the seller comes across as a knob.

There's nothing as bad as timewasters when selling cars. I had a focus rs for sale a few years back and the amount of lads who came for a spin was unreal. One lad drive down from drogheda to Clonmel for a spin. I brought him about 5-6 miles out the road and as I was about to head back and let him drive it I asked him was he interested in it? He told me "Shur I'd never get insurance on one of these " needless to say he got a free 6 mile workout walk a few seconds later.

The lonely hearts can in some cases become buyers too. In the same deal I had a few call from the same lad over a week or so and a gain the same story " if you still have it in a few weeks ill take it " I took no notice but he showed up in town a week later with cash ready to buy.

A pal of mine in Limerick was selling a suzuki jimny about two years ago and got a phonecall off a guy saying he's in Kerry, and is on his way to Dublin could he pull in and have a look at the jimny. No problem about 2 hrs later me man turns up at his house, has 2 cups of tea and a biscuit and a chat like an old friend then continued on his way to Dublin.

My friend reckoned it was all a scam to get the cup of tea and a break.

Ive had some serious timewasters....lads looking to find out about how much i paid for my VRT with no interest in my car whatsoever!!! I also had some guy texting me(my own fault for allowing tx's) who started off to look like he was interested and then starting talking about what position he should has sex with his girlfriend (escalated v.quickly) :D

On a side note, what are some of the best adds you have seen....I found this one the best

"** TRD 2 Way Diff ( tight as the elastic on a nuns knickers!!)"......:L

Next motors meet at the carpark of yer man's hotel. We can hold an all night vigil and shout words of encouragement, slow hand claps etc.

I believe it's "numpty", sounds like a prime example of the types of people RoverJames uses the word to describe!

I frequently get phone calls on top of the texts from people who open with "I have no intention of buying your car" and go on to want to talk about it, where I get such cars, what I do for a living etc.

I had two lads ring me up at 11:30 one night when I had a Range Rover for sale on Donedeal. They sounded slightly worse for wear.

They started off by asking how big the boot was and how much weed/hash they could fit in there as they were dealers like and they wanted a car with a big boot to carry their stuff around. They also wanted to know if it had tinted windows.

I explained that the RR had factory fitted tints on the rear windows and quite a substantial boot. However I said that as the RR had a towing capacity of 3.5 tons that they should consider a trailer as they could then carry a lot more stuff. I recommended an ifor williams box trailer. They thought this was a great idea.

They then asked if I would negotiate on the price but when I asked them for €10k over the asking price, they hung up. I had said that as they were laundering drug money I had to ask a premium.....:D

Jaysus! I would have told him "car gone" after the first message, he sounds like a right scumbag. or on a more enterprising day I might send him this:
