New road bike

    Evening all.

I am relatively new to cycling. I bought my 1st bike in November 2011, a trek 7.6 fx hybrid. I used up my entire bike to work allowance on this. However, I do ride it regularly enough (turbo trainer lately), solely for keep fit.

I have occassionally gone cycling with friends, all of whom are on road bikes and have beaten most of them climbing hill of Howth (brag brag). Basically I have been told I should get a decent road bike under my behind. I kind of need to as I hope to complete a few triathlons (sprint and olympic distance) this year as well as a couple of the an Post cycle events and keep up my weekly long cycles as well as partial commute cycles 25-50 k round trip a few times per week.

I think I will hold on to my Trek hybrid as a winter bike.

So my thinking is to buy something fairly decent 1500-2000 euro, probably new with a carbon fibre frame. I'm not not familiar with the groupset jargon but would really like to know is there a real difference between Shimanao Ultegra and 105 (apart from the small weight disprepency).

The following have caught my eye to date:

    Giant defy advanced 2.
    Trek Madone 3.5.
Cube agree GTC pro and GTC sport.
    Lappierre Sensium 200 cp
    Ridley orion.

Whatever, I go for I feel I will own for a considerable number of years. So I suppose I'm looking for a bit of an all rounder.
I welcome any new suggestions and all criticisms of my shortlist. Look forward to any replies.

    Thanks, Eoin.
