Engineering in NZ

I thought I would post this in case some engineers are finding it difficult to source opportunities or if there is trepidation about sourcing engineering work from somewhere so far abroad. It seems there are a few posts on here where people are keen to make the leap into the medical device sector and this may be a good way of going about it.

It seems New Zealand is short on engineers as there is not a large pool of home grown engineers to choose from. I’m working for a medical device company in Auckland that is seeking engineers ideally with medical device experience. I frequently get asked by HR if I know anyone who would be keen on moving over as they are well aware that Ireland produces good engineers and there is a strong medical device sector that they could tap into. There are a number of Irish people working in the company of 2,000+ people. There is a constant drive to get people with medical device experience both in Design, Quality and Processing, but I’m not sure if medical device experience is a must.

PM if you want further details or links.

I take it your company would be interested in sponsoring someone?

Is that how you started with them?

If the company were to offer you a position it would entitle you to apply for a 30 month ‘Work to Residency’ NZ visa, which takes about a month to acquire (between you getting a medical assessment and sending your visa application to the NZ embassy).

It wasn’t much fuss as they do this on a regular basis. I applied from abroad and skyped the job interview process.
