We're moving to Edinburgh in May and want to hire a van to move our stuff over. Does anyone know if there's a company that you could hire a van from here but then leave it in Edinburgh. It would make things so much easier.

    Thanks.

I have no experience on the matter, bar the States, but you may be better off getting the van in Belfast. The logic being to a company such as Hertz, a UK reg van is far more 'rentable' than an Irish one. In fact I'm pretty sure you can't leave the island of Ireland in a Hertz car without prior permission as the van would be useless to them. And they'd probably charge you an arm and a leg to transport it back. In the States they prefer if you keep car returns 'in state'

I'm using Hertz as an example but you'd probably need to talk to a company more on the commercial end of things.

Alternative, rent the van in Scotland (nearest the ferry you want), drive it back, load it and drive it back again. You can probably return it to Edinburgh for little charge with a large company. Flights are pretty cheap. However I don't know where the cost saving is in either scenario, I doubt its cheaper at all to rent yourself.

Maybe get one in the North, they may allow it to be dropped in Scotland.
